Cannot get rid of stitch width safety get double beep

I assume you have gone into the SET menu and turned it Off? This setting stays turned on even when you turn the machine off - you need to turn it off in the SET menu when you no longer need it.

In my case the problem was an error in the User Guide.

Press SET four times so that it displays SET 4. At the bottom right of the screen, where the User Guide shows a blank area, there is a setting for the maximum stitch width. If this is set to 0.0 you can only stitch straight. Change it to the other setting, typically 6.0.

Now go to ADJUST. At the bottom of the screen, the middle control is the actual stitch width, which you can set anywhere from 0.0 to the maximum. Set it to whatever width you want for the zigzag.

I did reply to this a few days ago, but the solution has not appeared for some reason?
The stitch width safety stays "on" when you turn the machine off. You need to go back into the SET menu and turn it off. Hopefully, this will fix it for you. You haven't by any chance got the Twin Needle setting turned on, have you? It is on the first page of the SET menu - look for the icons showing pictures of needles. The single needle icon should be the dark square. If this is okay, hit More twice and check that Stitch Width Safety is showing Off. One of the more recent machine software updates included the facility for using zig-zag stitches with the Sensor Q-foot. If your machine does not have this update, the buttons I am talking about might not be there, but maybe you should turn the Sensor Q-foot off too (unless you are actually using this foot, of course). Some of these buttons are greyed out if you have the embroidery unit attached, so do all your adjusting with the unit off the machine.

P.S. I did ask my technician once if there was any way to turn off or at least turn down that annoying beep, but he said not - sorry!

Stitch width knob

What's the model? Do you have the stitch selector set on straight stitch, or on a stitch with a width component, like a blind hem stitch?
Some machines consider straight stitch to be a zigzag stitch of width=0, while others have separate settings for a straight stitch and a zigzag (or other) stitch.

Stitch width

Could you be bumping it while sewing? Have someone watch while you sew. Otherwise, assuming this is a newish machine, I'd complain to Janome customer service and tell them it's been in for repair 3x and you'd like a replacement machine. You may need to be persistent, but I would definitely ask for that if I were in your shoes.

Twin needle

Hello

Install the second spool pin.
Place the two spools on the spools pins, one on each spool pin.Make sure that the spools are spinning toward each other.
Thread as for single needle.
Thread each needle from a different spool.
Caution: Make sure that the stitch width is not wide than the twin needle maximum swing. Check that the needles will not hit the throat plate as they swing from left to right and back again on stitches with width.

Happy twin needling

My elna has cams to upgrade the number of stitches it can do but I am unable to get them to work. I believe I have installed them correctly but cannot activate them.

Throughout the Swiss Elna range there were several of their top of line models that have the black cams for additional stitches and they all have an "Elnagraph" device in the top of the machine case where you insert the cams.

There are single cams where the needle just moves ffrom side to side while the fabric moves forward. And double cams where the needle moves from side to side while the feed dogs move the fabric forward and backwards to get a combination stitch. The trick is to get the Elnagraph to engage so the arm in it can "read" off the disc.

There are a couple of other knobs that you need to adjust to get the cam stitch though.

Star Series: (white machine with blue top) you need to put the stitch selector inside the elnagraph flap to "A" on the Star series and then stitch width to 4 and stitch length to the red A zone.

Air Electronic SU or Carina: you have 3 knobs from left to right - stitch selector (put it on 7) , stitch width (put it on 4, orange area) and stitch length (turn it around to the orange zone for the automatic stitches).

And on the early Supermatic the adjustments are a little different again.

And ALWAYS turn the stitch width and length dials back to zero, before you change the stitch selector, or pop out a cam.

I hope this helps you get your Elna stitching from the cam, there is a great Yahoo group called Elna Heirlooms too where there are lots of knowledgeable Elna owners and some files listing all the cam stitches.

Casn I use a double needle on this model?

If you have a zig-zag stitch on your machine, you have the capability of using a twin needle when using a STRAIGHT stitch. The width between the needles is the same as the width for the z-z stitch but you won't be using that stitch. Only the straight stitch.

My singer 7444 makes beeping sounds when operated, the machine fails to start.

Ensure that your stitch width and your spacing are set to a green-light setting. Also, ensure that your stitch wheel will operate(It will lock in the case of a jam.), and check to see that the stitch you have selected is compatible with the kit load you have onboard, i.e. for buttonholing, ensure you have the automatic buttonhole foot attached and the buttonhole lever down. In all other stitches, ensure the buttonhole lever is in the full up position.

The 7444 Precision is a "Smart" machine, and will not allow you to attempt a stitch that simply will not work with the wrong stitch spacing and width settings applied. Move the sliders slowly until each one lights up green, or at least does not light up yellow/orange at all.

Have a 1970's elna su supermatic but cams don't work

There are two types of discs - single and double.
For the thinner single discs do as follows:
1.Turn stitch width knob to "0"
2. Turn stitch length knob to "0"
3. Insert the single disc
4. Turn the top selector to "A"
5. Make sure the needle selector is in the centered position.
6. You may now choose any stitch length or width you wish. I usually try "3" for the width and 1/2 for the length to start.

For the thicker double discs do as follows:

1.Turn stitch width knob to "0"
2. Turn stitch length knob to "0"
3. Insert the double disc
4. Turn the top selector to "A"
5. Make sure the needle selector is in the centered position.
6. You may now choose any stitch width.
7. The stitch length must be put on "A" - this is the difference between the single and double discs!
I hope this helps!

Shark 384 - how can i get a straight stitch?

with the Shark Euro-Pro X machine, you need to bring the stitch width to zero it's the nob on top of the machine the manual states not to use it wider then 3 with the double needle cause it can break the needle. but either stitch selection "A" or "S" will give straight stitching with width at zero.
