Question about JVC RX-D302 7.1 Channels Receiver

Open Question

My JVC RXD302 has started issuing a very loud hum at power up. It tends to diminish over time but the time it takes to diminish seems to be getting longer. Any ideas where I should start to look? My initial thought was power supply capacitors, but I haven't been inside the unit yet.

SOURCE: JVC drains battery when OFF, puzzling

The problem is actually the wiring. Check the installation manual, I guarantee the "pro" installer took a shortcut.

There are two power wires (yellow & red +) and a ground wire (black -).
Now, black goes to chassis grounding point. Easy.

Yellow goes to a live terminal in the fuse block for constant 12V.
This retains the settings and clock etc.

Red goes to an ACCESSORY terminal in the fuse block (so key must be turned to at least ACC to allow it to be switched on).

But in the case of my car, the idiot who installed it ran the red wire directly to the + battery terminal. That's wrong, and will drain the battery.

Google for an installation manual, I'm certain your JVC head units will be the same procedure.

That usually indicates a capacitor going out in the power section or flyback section of the board inside. Depending on your repair shop this can be a fairly cheap repair (or not). Get an estimate and know what a replacement tv is worth. Sometimes its cheaper to get a new one than repair the older tv. As well power problems can stress other parts so it might get fixed only to fail later.

Loud humm when the drive channel is on

I suspect the power supply has an issue. Most likely bad filter capacitors. This could cause "motorboating" where power is drawn and supply voltage collapses and then recovers repeatedly.

Time for the repair shop. The parts cost should be nominal... labor... well...

Humming

Chances are it's the tires rather than the engine.
Does the hum diminish if you back off the accelerator? If yes, then look at rear axle pinion bearing. If no, then feel across the tires. They should be smooth across. If they're rough, they will make a loud howling noise.

Loud humming noise coming from 360

The loud humming noise is usually the DVD drive. It is very fast but is very loud. If you have the NXE dashboard you can download games to you Xbox 360 to run them from the hard drive (you will still need to put in the disk for copy protection issues). The Xbox should make less noise then. Try to mount the Xbox 360 on a hard surface which is in contact with a soft floor to reduce the noise travelling through your home.
If it is making a loud noise while there is no disk in the drive then take the console to a Microsoft dealer whenever you can to have them take a look at it.

Question about JVC Ipod adapter

Hi Deano,

My query was about a device that transmits the walkman to the car radio; the device produced a loud rumble - I think the power was too high; when I, with the use of a rubber band hold the start button down, the light stays on and I get no rumble or hum. Hope that helps.

Lots of hum from both speakers

Well folks I solved my problem and the amp has never sounded better. It had always hummed and now it close to stone quiet. The secret was it really never a problem with the amp. The problem was the result of either the pre-amp, interconnect cables, or the combinations of them. The solution came when I added a "drain wire" or ground to the cable I was using. There must have been a ground loop or some in-balance that required a wire to be connected to the earth (-) side at the source on the interconnect and then left unconnected at the other or receiving end of the interconnect. Anyway, no more hum, and the solution took some spare wire and solder.

Sunfire Mk II hum (different from greekboy post)

I had this issue a few years ago and the power cable from one of the inner terminals had come loose. It was still touching but whenever the sub would really pound it would jump off the connection and then reconnect causing it to hum. It was the most annoying thing ever so I finally pulled off the amp plate (super easy) and you could clearly see the loose wire. I had to use a good soldering iron to put it back on since it's a pretty fat wire. If you're not under warranty anymore then pop the back off and see if that's the issue.

No output from d110

Hi Chadwik

The fact that you do get hum when you partially remove one of the RCA's would tend to say that the output stages are working ok. Is the hum "solid" and bassy, or distorted?

There are a few issues that these subs have had, mostly to do with capacitors in the power supply failing. If you are up to it, I can talk you through repairs to it.
