Try wiggling the big gear on the R. side of the carrier they do get tooth to tooth.

Where is the TYPEWRITER SOLENOID on a IBM Wheelwriter 6 Series II

The "print" solenoid is what hits the hammer that hits the printwheel and makes it type on your paper. If you remove the ribbon and look straight down in the carrier on the left side you can see the solenoid. It is below the blue piece of rubber that sits on the hammer arm. The end of the solenoid is supposed to have a cap on the end of the plunger. This cap gives a specific clearance so when it is activated, it hits the hammer arm to propel it forward to strike the printwheel.

When typing, the letters are not showing up well unless it is on double strike. have take printwheel out and changed ribbon but still not striking paper well.

The problem may be the ribbon or the media you are typing on. try typing on a mulit part form, if the copies are good then its the ribbon (OLD) or the paper (GLOSSY).

The printwheel is not striking the ribbon- it seems to be seated correctly, but the ribbon is too low for the printwheel- what do I need to do?

On the Right side of the printer is a large black gear, wiggle it back and forth it should move freely. If not thet get tooth for tooth with the motor gear. you might also try a little WD40 on those bearings.

The print wheel strikes the paper but bypass the ribbon. Makes a good impression. I've adjusted everything I can. Where do I go from here. It's a very good typewriter - in excellent condition.

The older WWs have a black plastic gear on the R. side of the carrier, they get tooth for tooth, wiggle it, it should move easily with the power off.

Try typing on a mulipart form. If it types on the copies and not the orinonal the ribbon is the problem. If it dosen't type on the copies then the plastic cap on the print solenoid is broken.

We sell the cap with installation instructions for 20.00 includes shipping.

Typewriter is working fine but won't type anything on the paper - new ribbon / new printwheel - no impression. Appears to be stuck on a "stencil" setting.

Put in a mulit part form, if it prints on the copies the ribbon isn't lifting, if it dosen't the plastic cap on the print solenoid needs replaced.

The letters are not showing up on the paper

Make sure your printwheel is installed with the letter indentations facing the paper, and make sure the ribbon is placed between the printwheel and the paper. Also, check your ribbon to make sure it has not dried out.

Hope this helps!

Characters do not print.

The print solenoid plunger has a plastic cap on the end of the plunger it is probably broken. They are available but you need a bit of mechanical ability to install.

The forms obviously have a glossy surface, a fabric or multi strike ribbon will work. There is a impression control oh the l. side of the keyboard and also a bold feature, try max impression and bold.

Typewriter won't type letters

HI.. the hammer solenoid may be faulty..it should make a typing sound when you hit a key.( the printhammer moved and strikes the printwheel) or when you changed ribbons you might have unlatched the printwheel..there is a lever you press to relatch it until it "clicks"
If not that then make sure the ribbon is seated correctly, that it is between the printwheel and the black roller. Also visually inspect the ribbon so it is not caught in the printwheel.
