The power supply is what provides all the standbye voltages that get routed to the various other boards. The capacitors have to be unsolderd and the replacements solderd in.

Need to know where the hid unit is on a saab 9 5 vector sport 2007

You probably need a "HID relay harness", which is sold by many including DDM. From what I know, HID ballasts require an in-rush current followed by a solid continuous 55W power supply. Both of these may be issues for your car.

For one, in-rush current tends to be a problem for the stock headlamp wiring. Next, the power supply to your halogens is quite likely via PWM (pulse wave modulation) fashion, which is anything but a solid continuous supply. A large capacitor (or inductor/capacitor pair that they call an "error canceller") on the supply right at the ballast can help smooth things out, but this approach tends to make the in-rush issue worse since a large capacitor adds to the in-rush. Your best bet is a relay harness.

Of course, there is also the chance that DDM's ballasts take quite a bit more than 55W continuous, which would not surprise me a bit.

Problem concerns Samsung HL-S5087W. All of a sudden, TV goes through 3 startup cycles and shuts down resulting in 3 blinking lights on front panel. What I've done: Completely cleaned inside of...

3 blinking led light at the front panel is an error code for lamp malfunction. If you've already replaced the bulb and yet the symptoms remain the same, then high chance that the fault came from the ballast board because the supply voltage is present.

Confirm if the bulb will lit upon powering on the unit. Open the lamp cover, bypass the lamp cover switch by putting tape to make it in closed position (making it still the lamp cover is attached to the housing) and then power on the unit. Check if the bulb will ignite or will light up, if not, you have to replaced the ballast board.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

Check capacitors cp624, cp647 1000uf@35v each. They are in the power supply. Can be seen with bulge on the top. Seems to be a common problem with this model RCA.

I had the balast taken out of the Toshiba TV # 62HM15A. Reason being, there was no picture -- just black screen, after power on, green light appears then green light blinks then it makes cliclk and clack...

Hi, the word ballast is rather a misnomer in flat screen tv's, reason being flat screens have what are called cold cathode fluorescent lights in them, and there are usually more than one-it has been my experience that the power supplies that drive " ballast's " are what can go soft-and sometimes the power supply has the ballast right on the same board, you can try reducing the brightness to keep set from resetting-that'll tell you if power supply if " soft " on not. also-i have used a different piece of equipments " ballast " to power another-i once used a H.P. pocket pc to power flat screens bulb temporarily for just the same reason, to determine if bulb or ballast was in err. New " ballasts by the way run around 150 if i'm not mistaken they aren't cheap unfortunately. Hope this helps, PRODZILLA

Samsung hlr5667w that won't turn on. Good lamp and ballast

Any light blink on the front. Whats the voltage to the ballast from the power supply. Common problem on these sets are bad lamp door switch. Try shorting the switch. Color wheel also is problematic but usually will be noisy and cause shut down. Check power board for swollen capacitors. Hope this helps

Powering on and off randomly

There are two possible solutions to fixing this problem. First the Ballast has bad capacitors on it, and second bad Capacitors in the power supply.
I suggest you look into having the Lamp Ballast or technical name known as (Lamp Driver).. Have your Ballast Replaced on this model.

Ballast Verification Process
1. Short out door switch (SP001)
2. Apply AC power and wait till DM module boots
3. Press power switch and observe spark gap on ballast
4. If spark gap arcs, suspect Lamp. If color wheel starts but ballast won’t strike
lamp, go to next step.
5. Measure BP252 on AC IN CBA for +300Vdc. If missing check door switch, cable
from AC IN CBA to switch and AC IN PCB. If correct go to next step.
6. Monitor pin 2 of BT251 for Ballast ON command from Light Engine. If present
suspect Ballast. If missing suspect Light Engine. Pin 5 of BT251 starts at 3.3V
after power switch is pressed and drops to .18V when the Light Engine sends the
start command. No change on pin 5 indicates Light Engine is suspect, change
on pin 5 with no ballast start, ballast is suspect.

Note: Lamp may arc but not start. Pin 5 of BT251 is "LAMP LIT" and goes to 1.48V
when lamp is lit. If ballast strikes lamp but lamp won’t stay lit, suspect Lamp.

Try replacing these 4 capacitors on the power supply first, as thats only abou 5.00 at radio shcak and that may solve your problem as I have had alot of the RCA DLPs have these capacitors go bad. They are capacitors CP624, CP639, CP641 and CP644 try replacing them first as you may just end up not having to pay out alot of cash needlesly. Please let me know if you need further assistance or how changing the capacitors worked and we can go from there to get the set up and running again.
