Question about Dryers

Gas Dryer Sometimes Buzzes when burner comes on

Illeagle,
Thanks for replying. I somehow got the wrong dryer model number in the original message - I have the MDG5806AWW dryer. I assume though that the model number doesn't change what you think is wrong with my dryer. It is out of warranty (two years old in August) so I would like to pursue fixing it. I replaced parts in a Kenmore dryer I hade a few years ago so I don't mind going after this one. I assume I need to find out the part number that nees to be replace and then try to order it. How do I find out the specifics of getting the part?

Also, I had a question about the different sensors that are hooked to my dryer. I attached a picture below of the burner area. It shows 3 different sensors - one at 9 oclock, one at 12 oclock and one at 1 oclock or so. I was wondering what each one does.

Thanks again,
George

    illeagle,

I am back in town and need to get back to my dryer. In your reply above, you mention that I need to replace the two black coils which should stop my "humming" sound. I just want to be clear about this noise in case it ends up being a different problem than you originally thought. The noise I have tried to describe is a very loud buzzing noise - nothing close to a hum. Does this change anything?

I was looking on repairclinic.com and found a listing for a "gas valve componenet" for my dryer, but it is the gas tube, the coils and valves all in one large assembly (Item # 1068141). Is there a way to just replace the coils? If so, would you know where I could find the parts?

    Thanks again for the help.

    George

I replaced these coils in my Maytag Dryer with new ones however I am still having the same issue even with the new ones. Is it possible that there is something wrong with the Valve unit itself?

Ok George! Nice work.
The 2 black coils with insulated terminal connections are the ones you need to replace and that should stop your humming noise. The unit on the left side of flame shroud is the flame sensor. This controls the glow bar function. The item at position
1 o'clock on the flame shroud is your Hi-Limit thermostat. This protects the dryer from an overheating/fire scenario. I can't tell from the picture but there should also be a thermal fuse by the Hi-Limit t'stat. This is in place just in case the Hi-Limit fails to open in an overhat scenario. The Glow Bar is mounted up at the end of the the and to the left of the venturi, (flame tube).

Hope this helps you find your way around your dryer a little easier.

I need to clarify something to clear up any misunderstanding.

The unit at 9 o'clock is still the flame sensor.

    The unit at 12 o'clock is the Hi-Limit t'stat

The unit at 1 o'oclock is the thermal fuse

Sorry for the confusion, I misread your comment,(My Bad)

Also, could I impose on you give me a rating so I can keep track of my errors? LOL

    Thanks again,

    Dave E (Illeagle)

Have a Samsung gas dryer, power comes on and panel lights up. push start button and lights come on but nothing happens, dryer won't start???

What is the model number for the samsung dryer? Usually when this happens there are small thermistors that act as safety devices in the dryer that will prevent the unit from running. For example there is a hi and low limit thermistor that if either will faulty the unit would not run at all the lights would come on but the unit would not run to prevent the unit from getting to hot. Message me back your model number and I will find your schematic showing the thermistors in your unit. You would have to check these thermistors with a multimeter and perform continutity tests on them to assure that they are functioning properly. I await your reply Thanks Rick

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

Kenmore dryer buzzes but does not run

You could have any one of several problems with that gas dryer -

Turn dryer on.
Go out to where dryer duct exits house.
Feel the amount and strength of air blast coming from vent.
Air blast should be strong and cover the full face of the vent.

If not, check that dryer hose is not crushed/collapsed behind dryer as it is pushed back into position.
Clear any restrictions in the vent pipe.
Clean lint screen.
Check that there is no restriction where air is pumped into or discharges from the dryer drum on the inside.
If you are able to, check to see if you can see the pilot ignitor lighting.

Reply back your findings for further instruction or information.

Lg dryer - gas

If you do not have the original orifice you will have to order a natural gas orifice and replace the LP one with it. It is just a small brass threaded part with the correct size hole in it, located right at the end of the burner. For a LG dryer it is probably part number 4948EL4001B but you should get your model number from the sticker just inside the door and order the correct part from your nearest servicing dealer. You can find LG servicer's in the US on line at http://us.lgservice.com/index_b2c.jsp
