Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

After reformatting my HP hard drive I cannot install NET.frameworks 1.1 through Cumulative 3.5 (family). I have removed ALL frameworks, searched drives C & D for any remaining vestiges of framworks - then when I try to install 2.0 to get started, it says it cannot install over another installed framework (of that same number). I downloaded Microsoft's application uninstaller, took 1.1 off - took off 1.1 through "Add or Remove Programs." On Microsoft's website, on the download page for framework 2.0 there is a button for a framework 4 to download instead. Tried that, too. I need a simple step-by-step solution to this problem that I have been working on for months. Do I really NEED any of these frameworks? I know there are a lot of updates and patches in them that I probably DO need.

I will get back with you later. Thanks for your prompt reply. Do I have to pay you for EACH time we correspond? This is the first time I've used FixYa for help. I DID download the uninstaller you recommended but haven't done any work on it yet. Do you participate in Remote Desktop Connection feature? Maybe that would be easier (for me) I neglected to tell you I am running XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3. I had this issue a couple of years ago and Microsoft sent me a step-by-step fix and everything worked OK then.

Using the Handy Uninstaller Program - that only listed NET.Framework 4's I put on thinking it would compensate for lower frameworks - it said they (2 of them) would only be removed from the program LIST but stay on the hard drive. The uninstaller program showed no other NET. frameworks cuz I had already removed them with Windows installer uninstaller program. I suspect there are hidden registry values residing on my system that won't allow me to install necessary frameworks. I'm sick and tired of seeing the yellow shield. I know the shield isn't the problem - I need viable frameworks installed. I have a lot of programs installed and didn't want to have to list them all for you but could do a snapshot of them if you need me to.

I will look into using one of those programs. I have another ftp program but have never used it. I think this problem exists because of when I reformatted my hard drive I got a window asking if I wanted to preserve all of my personal data and I thought that would be a GOOD thing. I think it retained all of my JPEGs, etc. and maybe the NET registries as well. I use Registry Mechanic at least once a week but I'm sure it doesn't deal with deeply residing duplicate registries. I did a duplicate search for JPEGs a couple of weeks ago and there were more than 46 thousand. I kind of gave up at that point trying to remove them all although I did start doing it. I DO think many of them are removed, though, because I can't find some of them. Fortunately, I back up my pics every few months onto a DVD.

Don't have those FTP programs downloaded. Which one is best and exactly how would I do what you want me to do? Just a list of downloaded programs? Or do you need DOS registry values?

AAAAACK! I didn't realize this is a collapsible private forum. I was wondering why I kept getting all of the same (earlier) replies. You have to do a lot of work for $6. ! It's late, so I'll try tomorrow. I use "Screen Shot" version 8 but will have to figure how to scroll capture, then I'll send it. You just need to know what PROGRAMS I have on my PC? In a similar situation, I was trying to use a program and wondered why it wouldn't work even tho I removed it or an earlier version. When I did a search for any remaining (left over) files for that program, I removed them, reinstalled the program and it worked. It was VZWAccess Manager (mobile broadband program) from Verizon. Even the tech rep didn't/couldn't give me that solution, I just figured it out on my own.

OK. I'll try fixing it later. Don't know HOW MANY dotnetfxs I've tried. Maybe I never did try 3.0. Can't inStall 2.0 because it says it can't install it over an existing one, although I don't see it ANYWHERE!

Here's what I get when I tried to install NET.Framework 3.0 - there's 3 error reports I have made screenshots to send to you. How do I send you attachments? Tomorrow I will try the other solutions you provided. I have only tried installing NET.Framework 3.0 so far. If you don't have a workaround for this, don't waste your time answering me back yet until I try the other solutions you had previously offered. I've been kind of busy this week to devote too much time to this problem. Also, how do I GET JPEGs to you using this form of communication that we're using?

  • Roberta Wise
    Roberta Wise Oct 13, 2010

I have to look over your previous instructions on how to upload screenshots. I have a screenshot program. Do you just need to see what PROGRAMS I'm using? In trying to install NET.Framework 3.0, the error message # is: Another error message installing the same NET.Framework is: I'm going to bed now - I'm too tired to do anymore troubleshooting - I feel like reformatting again and declining the option to save any personal data files.

I cannot get TinyPic to upload anything. All I get is this: Upload Failed! Invalid format (jpg|bmp|gif|pcx|png|psd|tif). I have tried to send info in ScreenShot 8, put it in Notepad and then put the info in a Word doc. I get this same "Upload Failed" screen every time. It shows I have successfully installed .Net Framework 4 Security Updates but still cannot install the .Net Framework 3.5 Family.

I am having problem understanding your question, but let me explain you with what I assume myself from your problem's description. Actually, we can't install Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1 if any of the recent version is/are installed on your system. Suppose if you've already installed 2.0 version, then 1.1 is also already there and so on... 2.0 comes with 1.1 as well and all the later versions come with the previous version service packs.

It's important to mention the Operating System installed on your computer, so that I can bring up more specific solution. Assuming a problem to resolve is very common, but I don't like it that way, when I type down every possible theory here, you'll get confused. I hope you don't like it that way either.

Please post back with the lists of all the programs installed on your system, the name of the operating system nstalled on it.

In the meantime, let me give you a tool to uninstall all the versions of Microsoft.NetFrame installed on your computer. Use this (click here), this program will help you uninstall all the hidden or overwritten programs. Download, Install and run the program, I hope that you'll be able to use the program, it's simple and user friendly.

There are still some more thing you need to do, but this time I'll not mention that, it's regarding registry entries, unless you delete the program entries from the Registry, they will remain in your system as long as it works.

I'll assist you with a detailed step by step instruction.

Good luck.

No, once you've paid for a premium assistance, you can get as many instructions as you want until you are satisfied and until your problem is resolved. Actually we are not allowed to do Remote Desktop connection, but I don't know whether they would sack me if I do... :-)))), honestly FixYa don't support customer through Remove Desktop Connection.

Ok.. No problem, I'll try my best to give you the best and easiest instructions.

Good luck and see you very soon.

I just tried out to do some research on the same problem and I've got one, I don't know if this is the similar with yours, you can give a try before we mess up with all the registries or with the applications. When I tried to install .NetframeWork 3.5, .NetframeWork 3.0 is always left behind, means skipped and as you know almost all the components of the .NetframeWork 1.0, 1.1... etc.. are with NetframeWork 3.0. After I install the .NetframeWork 3.0, everything's fixed and now it's working without any further problem. You can download the .NetFrameWork 3.0 from here (click here).

If this doesn't helpful, run the Windows Automatic updates and check whatever necessary updates are available, and run and install the updates.

If again there's no any sign of going through, I'll assist you the Registry entries fixes.....

    Once again Good luck.

Hi! have you tried my last post? If not, give it a try................

Actually I was talking about free online file sharing website like or etc... FTP is different and File Sharing is different.. I'll explain it later, if you need to know.

Well, to share the snapshot/screenshot [I hope you know how to take a screenshot of your desktop, if not follow this, Press the Print SCr or PrintScreen button on your keyboard while the program you want to capture is opened on the desktop, now open the Paint program, and press Ctrl+V or paste, there you'll see the capture screenshot of your desktop, save the Paint file as jpeg or png and sent it to me].

It'll be better for you to upload it on a Photo and Image sharing website (no registration needed, but if you want one, you can do it, no problem). Open this link (click here), the will open up, you'll see the menus like :

Click "Choose File", locate the saved screenshot file, then "Open" and give a tag to your photo [tag box in the photo] (you can give any name) and then click "UPLOAD NOW". You may be asked to enter a Captcha text, do so and wait for few seconds or minute/s, once upload is completed, you'll see another page like this (with several links and urls)

Copy the Last Link (circled for your reference) and post back with the link so that I can see your screenshot of your installed programs.

But first, try my last instructions and let me know.

    Good luck.

To upload the screenshot, follow my previous comments with some screenshots, I hope you'll be able to understand that.. Today something amazing happened, I have been on a Chat Session with a client for Eight hours continuous... :-), and at last the his problem couldn't be resolved, coz there were so many virus/es involved and all his computer's system files are corrupted and messed up... Ok.. if you have problem uploading the screenshot or the image, let me know. But if you follow the exact step by step instructions, definitely you'll be able to upload it/them.

Hi, in Windows 7 framework 3 is installed and newer versions can be installed on it. If you try to install an older version, it will block your installation.
1-Try to download it from Microsoft\'s website and install it with administrator account privilege.
2-Go to the control panel, find out if Windows features are on or off. Try to check framework and then restart Windows. Then reinstall it.
3-If you have still problems, go to and search microsoft dot net framework 2 in windows 7.
