Question about Intel Motherboard

1 Answer

Hy, i have a gigabyte GA-M61SME-S2 motherboard. I recently bought an ati saphire HD 3870 and since then i'm having problems with the system start up. When i try to power on my computer after 1 day of not using it, or a couple of hours it starts normaly (most of the times) but if i shut it off now and i want tu turn it on immediately it won't start. I hear a few a clicks, the beep and the windows starting up but guess what, my monitor doesn't start. To fix that i turn off the psu for a few seconds and then turn it back on, but i want to find out why i'm having this problems. A little help pls, i'm tryng to find a solution to this for almost a month. PS. I have an 450w psu. (my english sucks, i know) :P

Sounds like either your card is overheating, or your PSU is not powerfull enough.
Not easy to help without being there.
If your power supply is a generic cheap PSU it may not be outputting anywhere near the power it states.
Does your pc work ok with the graphics card/onboard graphics you used before?

GA-M61SME-S2L motherboard?

1) http://www.cpuid.com/news/58-cpu_z_gigabyte_g1_edition.html

It's CPU-Z from CPUID.com, but made especially for Gigabyte motherboards.

This way when you change a parameter in Voltages, or system bus clock, (FSB), you can see the changes in real time.

2) EasyTune 5 from Gigabyte,

http://gigabyte.com/MicroSite/121/tech_20041125_px_et5.htm

That is just the features, and G.U.I. shown. (Graphics User Interface) The actual download website is below at the bottom link I listed,

http://www.filecluster.com/Drivers/Firmware-Bios/Download-Gigabyte-EasyTune.html

http://www.filecluster.com/downloads/Gigabyte-EasyTune.html

The above is the actual download page.
Where it states 7-Zip info, go to the right, and click on the blue - External Mirror 1 - (Has a green Down Arrow to the right of it.

After you click a small window will come up on the right -
Opening motherboard_utility_gbttools_gbt_et5pro.exe

Click on Save File. Observe the top of the small window that comes up on the left. In the wording at the top of the window tells you where the file will download to.

Go to where it states, then DOUBLE-click right on the file name,
(motherboard_utility_gbttools_gbt_et5pro.exe )

Now follow the directions, and install EasyTune 5.

This is Gigabyte Support, and the download page for the motherboard manual,

http://ee.gigabyte.com/products/page/mb/ga-m61sme-s2l_20/download/manual

REMEMBER;
1) Take -> BABY steps. Change a parameter in small increments.

Change the parameter in one small increment, then let the system (Computer) run for 24 hours. This is a 24 hour burn in test. Pretty accurate, but do not 'stamp it in stone'.

2) You can only overclock so far. Overclocking creates heat. After some time the air cooling you are using, is not going to be adequate.

3) You can only overclock so far because you will be changing the FSB for the Processor. This also changes it for the Ram Memory, and expansion slots.

Ram Memory typically operates at half of the Processor's FSB.
Change the Processor FSB too much, and ram memory will not work.
Neither will the expansion slots. Their frequency rate is determined off of the Processor FSB also.

4) Overclock too much at first, and you risk burning up the motherboard chipset, and Processor, and Ram Memory.

joecoolvette

GIGABYTE GA-M61SME-S2 AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard Will not post, tried clearing CMOS, moved memory chips around. Still does not post.

Is this a new board? Check the processor to make sure that it is seated properly. You will have to remove the fan and heatsink, but if you put the processor in yourself, it is possible that it didn't seat properly.

With ASUS M2N-MX mainboard, ATI Radeon 7000 Series problem.

Your Motherboard has an onboard video chipset made by Nvidia. Nvidia and ATI have a history of not playing nice with each other.

I have 2 possible solutions for you.

1.) Remove the Radeon card and use the Nvidia onboard card (Essentially a Geforce 6100)

2.) Enter the bios (Usually done by hitting <Delete> or <F12> while the computer is booting up) Your Motherboards manual can tell you for certain. Then find the options for onboard video and disable it.

Then boot up the PC, When it say starting Windows press <F8> to bring up the windows boot menu. Select "Start in Safe mode" Once this loads up open the device manager, look under "Display adapters" find the entry for the Nvidia adapter, right click on it and select either "Uninstall" or "Disable this device"

Which you choose depends on your personal preference Whether you like Nvidia or ATI boards better.

If it makes your decision easier a Geforce 6100 is roughly equivalent to a Radeon 8500 in performance.

I hope this helps

Windows Vista

If you are having trouble installing the drivers from the Gigabyte CD, than go to Gigabyte's web site for the GA-M61SME-S2 motherboard & download the Vista driver's you need. The web site has some newer drivers. Click on this link to go to the driver site.
http://tw.giga-byte.com/Support/Motherboard/Driver_Model.aspx?ProductID=2507
If you are still having trouble. List what is not installing here.
Same for error messages.
