Question about Texas Instruments TI-30XA Calculator

The square root of a negative number is an imaginary number, and the TI-30XA does not deal with imaginary numbers.

However, the square root of -x is equal to i times the square root of x. So, to calculate the square root of -4, for example, press 4 square_root = and read 2. Thus the square root of -4 is 2i.

Absolutely. The square-root function is the blue g-shifted function of the y^x key, 2nd row, leftmost column.

The key to use for the square, and the cube are well marked and they share the same physical key (X to 2) or [SHIFT][X to 2]. Similarly the keys to use for the square root and the cube root share the same physical location (the square root key, to the right of the square key).
