Question about Canon PowerShot S3 IS Digital Camera

2 Answers

"Unidentified Image" I took a bunch of pictures and now about 15 of them say "Corrupted Data" when I go to view them. A few of them say "Unidentified Image" and I can still view the picture. When I loaded them all on my PC, those that say "corrupted Data" or "Unidentified Image" loaded, but no program will open them. Even the ones that I am still able to view the picture. I believe all these pictures are my close up shots, too. Hmmmm... is there any solution to being able to open these pics? When taking them, i was able to view them right after I shot the picture. What's the deal?? Also with a few shots, I had a line of solid color going through either the top or bottom half of the shots. HELP!

After your memory card recovery software has successfully retrieved your images either try reformatting on a low level format and or burn your SD card and buy a new one. A few bucks on a new card should save much angst at lost or corrupted images.

Same problem here on a Power Shot A3150 IS with a 8GB micro SD.
All worked well, then bom, only unidentified images. But the camera doesn't tell you unless you review the images...
Tried 5 recovery softwares dso far, some recover the images into a bmp, which then also says unidentified image... Even the camera can't read them.
And if I take a movie, I get an ASCII chaos in the folder the images are recorded in. No solution so far.

Try to retrieve the files from the memory into your computer, if you can't see the pictures after they are moved, they might have been corrupted while you were using the camera.
In theory, you might have placed the camera near a strong magnetic field, like a speaker. This could explain the files being corrupted if that's the problem you have.

Sd card won't upload video- 'unidentified image' is displayed

iPhoto is for still pictures. iMovie is for videos. Use a card reader to download your videos to a folder you create on your desktop. From there, you can import to iMovie or just play them using Quicktime.

Unidentified image, image too large

Try formatting the memory card (or changing it). You probably have some bad sectors.

If this does not help, take the camera to a Canon dealer, it's probably a software problem

Lost 70 pictures from trip, camera showing corrupted data

I would suggest purchasing a leading brand card reader(eg lexar or sandisk) as they often come with image recovery software to help in these situations. Once you recover your images, try formatting the card in the camera and see how it goes this time. If you dont want to take chances though, just replace the card with a quality brand. Good Luck!

You think you can try photo recovery software to see if you can rescue the lost photos or movies, here are some you may rely on. Both programs can also recover videos and music.

Photo Recovery Software (for Windows)
Mac Photo Recovery Software (for Mac OS X)

Be careful: Before your pictures and videos are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the memory card in case the original files(your pictures) are overwritten.

Unidentified Image

Usually the only time this message will appear is when you have taken the picture with another camera and try to review it on another. If this is not the issue, try formatting your card. Try another card. It may be a faulty memory card. If none of this works, call Canon tech support for free support.

Unidentified Images.

I would try formating the card using the camera (menu - setup - format) - THIS WILL ERASE ALL THE PICTURES YOU CURRENTLY HAVE ON YOUR CARD, so before you do this you may want to get a memory card reader and transfer the pictures (click and drag) to your computer. As to using the 4GB card...you will have to check with canon if a card that size if compatable. Not all cameras work with SD cards larger than 2GB.
