Mi notebook acer aspire 3000LCi the only do is a an upper and i dont have a recovery disk

When you restore your system back to the new factory settings, it will wipe your hard drive clean and do a fresh install of the operating system with the original factory setting.

To start this process, unplug all extra devices from your computer

(printers, external hard drives, etc.) as these can interfere with the system restore.

Starting with Windows XP, most systems with issued a system recovery disk in case of any problems with the factory installation.

Check the documentation and disks that came with your computer to determine if you have one of these system disks.

If you do have a copy of this disk, place it in your CD/DVD drive and restart your computer.

If you do NOT have a copy of this disc, skip to step 3 for further instructions.

Once you restart your computer, a screen will appear with the words.

Press Any Key to Boot From CD. Once you press a key, a screen will come up containing instructions to format your hard drive and restore the original factory settings.

Follow the on-screen prompts to finish the installation.

Once the restore is complete, remove your Recovery CD from the disk drive so that your computer does not try to boot from the CD again.

Restart your computer to complete the restore.

3. If you do not have a System Restore disk, then your computer should have a recovery partition on your hard drive, separate from the main partition of the disk.

Unplug all external devices and restart your computer.

When the loading screen comes on with the Windows logo, press Alt+F10 together five times.

This will bring up the system restore menu.

Follow the on-screen prompts to restore your computer back to the factory settings

hope this helps

I installed a new hard drive. on the compaq presario v2000. all im getting is realek media error. i went into bios set default. no resolve. tried cd rom first. no help.jumper pin is outter two verticle....

Does the laptop BIOS "see" the new drive? If not the drive must be "Initialised" first, otherwise it will not recognise you have a drive in the bay. Place the drive in a USB caddy and using another laptop or your laptop with the old hard drive in it, select Control Panel and Adminastrative Tools. Select Computer Management, From the side panel select Disk Management to view selected drives. The disk drive that is connected via USB will be there. Click the drive and select initialise then format and select a drive letter. OR
With the new drive in the laptop bay, set the BIOS menu, on your laptop, to use DVD/CD ROM drive as first boot device.
Place your System disk in the drive and boot from the disk.
Follow the instructions, (if any) on the screen and let the new system software initialise and format the new drive.
Hope that helps

I purchased a 'broken' c400 off ebay, rather foolishly thinking it's an easy fix.... Basically I need to find a way to install an operating system on the computer - it has no cd drive, no floppy and...

Honestly with so many things that are missing and so many things acting weird on you, your best bet is to get a known working hard drive in there and also a know working cd drive in your laptop. This way you know for sure those two components are working properly and you can try a fresh install of XP from a good working cd drive and onto a know good working hard drive.

If you now have problems then from this point it can legitimately be narrowed down to a memory, CPU or motherboard issue.

This really is the best way to try troubleshooting this problem with so many components missing.

Always a good idea to stick to doing things on the same computer instead of doing lots of swapping between hard drives.

If you need further help, feel free to let me know.

Removing the hdd in my toshiba 1135-s125

OK, This is a big undertaking if you are completely new.

1st, if you can get a static guard wrist band - great!
2nd You will be dealing with plenty of screws so keep track

In Toshiba notebooks most screws are marked. Here are some examples:
F4 - flat-head screw 4mm long
B6 - button-head screw 6mm long
F16 - flat-head screw 16mm long
B8 - button-head screw 8mm long

I have .a Toshiba Satellite 1135-S155. It should be a similar configuration, same family/1135-S1xx series.

You will have to remove a total of 9 Phillips screws.

Place the underside of the PC up.
Disconnect all power, cables and Battery from Laptop
.
The first screw is located just under the Toshiba Serial Number / Bar codes, just above where the DVD/CD-ROM combo drive is located.
Mine is labeled (F5). Unscrew it and place in a safe place.
Pull DVD/CD-ROM combo drive out it is an assembly.

The Hard Drive is located under the DVD/CD-ROM combo drive.
The Hard Disk Drive (HDD) is enclosed within a caddy containing the remaining eight screws.

There are four screws holding the caddy rails to the Laptop and four screws holding the rails, caddy and Hard Drive as an assembly.
Unscrew and place in a safe place/ container they are small. Disassemble the HDD from caddy assembly; place your HD in the caddy and reassembly.

Here is another Toshiba HDD access that is slightly more
straightforward than my 1135 series
So you get an idea of where a HDD is visually:

Above is a photo of the Battery sliding out

Below is the Hard Drive Removal

I hope this gives you an idea of how to go about it for your
particular Laptop

That error indicates a hard drive problem. You probably have to replace the hard drive.

Cd drive is not recognized

Hi, The problem of the CD drive missing (and sometimes the A drive likewise) has been known to come up from time to time when PCs were upgraded to SP2, on some Dell models, the InCD feature of Nero, or those with Roxio CD creator 5. A couple of things you can try: 1. Uninstall references to the CD in your Device Manager, reboot. Windows is suppose to autodetect and auto install such devices; 2. verify that the CD is detected in the CMOS/BIOS, save & exit; 4. download and merge to your registry a quickfix - 5. If installed, uninstall/remove InCD or Roxio CD creator 5. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turn up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.

Not reading software

Hi, If the PC still powers on and POST then should be reasonable to repair. Assuming that you have to replace the 80Gb HD, that will set you back something like 80USD. Physical replacement is relatively easy, you can do it yourself. Of course you would need the recovery CD/Windows installers to put in Windows again. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turn up or should you need further information. good luck and kind regards.
