Paper feeds through crooked and comes out crunched

Hi, Out of the blue, the paper will not track evenly thruogh the printing process on my Epson Stylus color 740. It pulls through correctly on the left side but does not pull through, then crunches up and feeds through crooked and crucnhed up on the right corner. I can find no obstruction inside the paper feed chamber. Not sure how to access the rollers to check. Paper jam has been cleared- problem continues.

Hi - googled and found a good Epson site with info on this - reproduced below - the part that worked for me was allowing a small bit of room between the paper on both sides and the paper guides (counterintuitive...) rather than flush up against them.

From the Epson instructions:

You can try using the Epson cleaning sheet (has a sticky side) to pick up any excess paper residue. It's available from the Epson Store.
Try loading heavier stock paper, such as 24 lb. paper, if you haven't done so already.
Make sure there is 1/16 to 1/32 inch space on each side of the paper in the paper tray.
Move the paper type selector back and forth 5 times, to make sure it is not stuck.
Feed the tray with a minimum of 20 sheets of paper and try to see if it loads paper through.
The paper thickness lever has two settings, one for plain paper, (thin paper 20# to 24#) and one for envelopes and thick paper.
It should be on the 0 setting for thin paper and on the + setting for thick paper and envelopes.
The paper adjustment lever may be adjusted in between the two settings to accommodate paper that is not standard or that the operating/environmental conditions have changed.
Make sure the paper is loaded far enough into the printer to ensure good contact between the paper and the paper feed mechanism.

Make sure the blue slide device on the left side of the paper holder is tight against the paper. If not, the paper will feed corrked.

check the paper tray, make sure the paper guides are snug up to the edges of the paper. Even a small gap will cause miss alignment of the printing.

Turn the printer unit ON
2. Pull the power plug from the back side of it
3. wait 1 min
4. Plug unit back in
5. wait 3 full minutes
6. try to print does the error still exist? If yes continue below

Locate one piece of CARD STOCK paper and manually feed it up against the feed assembly and into the feed.Must be CARD STOCK PAPER, regular paper will not work. the idea is too dislodge any pieces of paper that may be broken off inside the rollers, and not visible to the eye. Repeat this process until the error goes away.

Preprinted 4 part paper crunching up when being printed in epson lq680 printer

Mustafa:

The printer is not meant to use multi-copy carbon invoices. The cause of your problem is the double-feed prevention pad below the paper pickup roller. When the first form is fed, the double feed prevention pad will stop multiple paper feeds. With multi-page carbons, the paper feed roller is trying to feed the form, and is pulling the top page of the form into the feed rollers while the double-feed prevention pad is stopping the bottom form from feeding and the top and bottom pages are sliding because of the carbon paper between the sheets. The only solution that I know of is to buy a printer with a tractor feed and pre-printed fan-fold forms with tractor feed strips on the sides of the forms.

Paper feeds crooked

Normal 0 I suggest you get a sheet of Card Stock (Heavy paper) and place it in the feed way. Then press the print button applying a slight amount of pressure on the Card Stock so it will feed through the printer. The reason for this, is in some cases I have been able to clear the paper track of debris that was deposited there over time.
Worth a try, as I have fixed a number of printers this way, saving costly repairs.
Hope this helps. Bud

Epson RX520 dont print the full picture

It's a problem with the paper not feeding straight. The printer will make a pass & sense the width of the paper & print accordingly. If it feeds in crooked then it sees it as being narrow & only prints to that width. Happens more easily with heavy photo paper.

Apply a bit of pressure to the paper as it feeds & it's happy days.

Misaligned Printing

if you do an internal test page ( there should be a button on the machine you push for this function, I'll give you the link for the manual in case you don't have it) does it come out crooked?

the alignment of cartridge is to make sure the colors are o.k. not for paper alignment.
if the internal test comes out ok then the problem is with the paper path, are the guides snug against the paper ?
if the internal test comes out crooked then the problem is with the scanner or board.
