Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

I have a steel line roller garage door 14' wide which keeps sticking when closing and then opening back up. It appears to be out of alignment at about 18'' down as though the tension is out. It does not always do this but occasionally.

I think you need to call a commercial door company for this one.

My chamberlin chain drive garage door opener closes within 2 feet from the floor -- stops then opens [ the 2 eyes aren"t the same color ]

Try adjusting the lower limit on the garage door opener. It is a set screw (of some sort) on the back side of the opener. Once you make an adjustment, open and close the garage door once to see the effects. Keep repeating until you get it where you want. But you must cycle the door open and closed to see any change. If you are still having a problem, attempt to align your interference sensors and make sure nothing is blocking the light.

My garage door lurches while it is opening

If the alignment is true and rollers move with ease, you should not have any jerking motion. Unlock the door catch from the pulley line of the motor. The door should be FREE to lift by hand. With the door Free of the motor/line-pulley, lift by hand. Do so a number of times and see if it binds or is free to move up and down easily. If it binds, the alignment is off and needs adjustment. If it moves quite well, then the problem can be the door sensors. These are the two face to face sensing devices at the bottom of the metal guides on both sides. These sensors need to be horizontal and fixed to allow Line Of Site to operate correctly. Check both Alignments, Rails and Sensors.

Garage door opens only 2/3 and won't stay closed

One could be that the tracks are misaligned and its slowly pinching the roller wheels. Sometimes that happens when they get bumped hard. or if the hardware was never really tightened it can slowly work its way out of alignment. THe roller wheels should always have wiggle room.

Check to see if your child/animal security beam is working correctly. It is an "Electric Eye" mounted about 12 in off of the floor on two mounting points and one side shoots an infra red beam across to a receiver. These points must be reasonably aligned to flash a beam (cannot see) from one point to another. This beam keeps the door open if it is interrupted . If it is not aligned, then the door opener sees a problem and will not close the door electrically. You must aligned the beam by bending the transmitter or receiver untill you can close the door by the remote. Also check to see if something placed in the garage is not blocking the beam first.

It sounds like either the safety sensors are not aligned, or the rpm sensor needs replaced. Also whether you replace or repair get a surge protector 900 joules or higher on this unit. You can get a reasonable opener with one remote for 138.00 at most lowes. Thanks BB

Lift-master 2000SDR remotes will open but not close garage door. Same problem with all clickers and even those programmed into the cars. What could this be and better yet, how do I fix it?

Lift-Master 2000SDR opener. Opener generally works fine from the remotes. However, first time in the morning in cooler weather, it will start to close and the reverse and the lights blink. I have checked the senors - appear to be aligned properly. I have lubed the gear and used garage door spray on the rollers and hinges at the proper places. To close the door when this happens, I have to hold the wall button.

My garage door opener reaches the laser beam and goes back up

Have checked to make shur nothing on the Door is sticking out into the path of the beam. Most door I know of are set so that anythig breaking the beam, while the door is in motion, will send it back up. the beam dosnt stop being looked at till the doors been all the way closed for a second or two.

You might want to look at the part of the door that reaches the laser just before it goes back up, it dosent take much to break the beam, a piece of string could do it.

Hope this Helps
