I bought a computer for my wife second hand and its locked with the administror disabledhow do I fix

If it is locked in the bios, power up the computer and start clicking F12 over and over real fast until the bios screen comes up. Then tab to the password and remove it.

If the OS is locked, you'll have to reload the OS and have the key number available or you'll have to get a new copy of the OS.

What is administror

administrator is the primary assigned owner of the computer the one who set the computer up in the first stages who purchased and owns it. if you are getting a warning you need administrator permission to use this right click on the software program and find the line that reads "run as administrator" all newer computers will mandate that a software program be run as administrator or it will not function properly.

Repair my xp window

How do you perform a reinstallation of Windows XP, sometimes called a repair installation?
Configure your computer to start from the CD-ROM drive. For more information about how to do this, refer to your computer's documentation or contact your computer manufacturer. Then insert your Windows XP Setup CD, and restart your computer.
1.
When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.
2.
Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen.
3.
Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.
4.
In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.
5.
Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.
6.
Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

And all the best

  5. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you have to use from the Recovery Console.

solution provided by timeformjohn is misleading, and completely useless. this issue is not related to norton at all.

Also the steps included are a complete waste of anyones time.

Log on to windows xp pofessional

you can log on as an administrator (if it is available) with pressing two times of CTRL + ALT + DEL key. some times the default administrator name have no passwords. so, you can try to enter without a password. then you will create another user name as your own.

If you cant logon with the administrator, just u can go for password reset or recovery disk to break that.

you go to www.password-reset.com or www.lostpassword.com/windows.htm

thank you.
