Question about Maytag MDE2600 Electric Dryer
A common Maytag problem is for the blower fan to come loose on its shaft. This causes the rumbling noise, and since air isn't moving properly it causes the slow drying. It's not difficult to replace the fan, but it requires some patience, some basic tools, and probably an extra set of hands. This site and this one both have helpful information on how to get at the fan, as well as selling parts. You may also be able to find the fan locally if you have an appliance parts store around.
If you don't feel up to tackling the repair yourself, this repair won't cost as much as a new dryer if you call a service technician in. But it's not hard, you'll save some money, and feel good about it if you do it yourself. Good luck, and thanks for using Fixya.
