You didn't mention what your signal source is but if it is one of the two satellite services, the problem is probably with your receiver, not your set.
Just put your on-screen menu on the screen and if it times out, bring it up again and again.
If the menu continues to display each time, your set is OK.
Call the service provider, Dish or Direct TV.
