Question about Singer 3116 Simple

4 Answers

I think I have a Singer 5528. I hate it. Never could get it to work properly. I am not a person who knows how to sew. I need a simple machine that goes front and back and that is all. Now that I have this monster and have had it for years, I need to sew straight lines and it will not even do that. It starts to sew and then stops and all stays in one position. It will not go it just locks up. I am 82 y.o. and not stupid but I have just about lost my patience with this thing today. Help me please if you can. I have tried taking the bobbin out and put it in over twenty times. I am doing something wrong and I do not know what. I can not take it to the store, it is too heavy for me to carry. Does anyone come to the homes to fix them? If I got rid of this thing and bought another, what would the most simple machine be that I could buy?

Check your needles may be your using the wrong one.. Replace your bobbin and your bobbin case... Also check online for the proper way of threading your machine if it doesn't work.. ..Send it for repair may be it needs some timing adjustments.. Mine works pretty well....

If you need something that just sews forward and in reverse, you might look for an older Singer. You know, those old black machines that mom and grandma used to have. They are simple and sturdy and not much goes wrong with them. Just test it real well before taking it home. (IMHO, the new machines are too complicated--try to do everything--and just don't last.) There's a reason those old black Singers are still around...

You might check to see if the bobbin is in the bobbin case correctly, counter clock wise, you also might try a different needle

if you decide to get another sewing machine, Walmart does have some reasonable ones, that might not be to heavy for you

Try these suggestions
rethread the machine--the thread could be caught on something
check the needle it could be damaged
the feed dog may not be in the right positon
check the power cord to see if it's plug into the sewing machine correctly
if you decided to get another sewing machine just for simple sewing, you can buy one for under $75.00,,you might check in your area & see if any sewing repair shop make house calls
if these suggestions don't work, send me a comment
we do but were in Ar

Sounds like it is not threaded right, I think you should invest in a new machine. They have them now, where automatically thread themselve. Go to JoAnn's and they will even give you a free lesson on how to operate it. And their prices are reasonable on Singers. Don't frustrate yourself, sewing is coming back and your old machine will be welcome at a community center or sell it in the newspaper. Treat yourself good, because you deserve it. Good luck

No, sewing machines that use bobbins don't have an adapter like that. It would be difficult to get the bottom tension right working off the spool. The best solution is to fill several bobbins in your thread color before starting to sew. Then when you run out, swap in a new bobbin.

Some advanced machines will warn you when the bobbin runs low. (I've seen the feature on the machines with touch-screens.)

I wish that I had better news for you. A serger might be a an option to consider. They don't use a bobbin and can be used for some sewing projects. You can still run out of thread on one cone before the others run out. (Those machines use 3-4 threads at a time for the basic stitches. The knife can be lowered if you don't want to trim your fabric while stitching.)

(I've got a Singer Touch and Sew and usually don't run out of bobbin during a seam. I will swap bobbins when they are still 1/4 full at times if I get concerned about the bobbin running out.)

Can I use my singer simple 3116 to quilt

you could probably do light quilting on it, you'd probably
need to buy a extension table for it.
here's a link for parts for the the machine, they do have a extension
table you might be interested in.

Need quick directions on proper threading of a singer sewing machine model 5838

You can get frre threading diagrams from www.sewusa.com
I couldn't see instructions for the exact model number you mention.
These are for the Singer 5932, which I assume will be very similer to your machine.
http://www.sewusa.com/Threading_Diagrams/Threading_Pages/Singer_Sewing_Machine_Threading/singer_5932_threading.htm
And these are for the 5508 and 5528
