Question about LG WM1814CW Front Load Washer

2 Answers

I washed my carpet and the rubber backing fell apart inside the washer. I got an error message, saying to check the drain hose and filter. I cleaned the filter and it still won't drain. Please help me. Is there any way I can disconnect the drain hose from the washing machine?

Thank you for responding, but the LG washer listed above is not the one I have and I don't know if that matters, but I'm a little confused about the screws on upper cabinet. My washer is the LG WM2688H*MA. Please help me to understand this better.

did you get my comment to your answer? Should I check my email for the response?

I'm not sure if it matters, but the washing machine listed is not the one I have. I have the LG WM2688H*MA I'm a little confused with the directions. Am I supposed to be removing screws from the front of the machine or the back. I do have a filter with a turn plug and I cleaned that out. I also noticed from taking the panel off on the back that the hose leads to where the filter in the front is. What I don't understand, is how to get to it (why does the hose have to be sooo long anyway?) I'm getting so frustrated with myself for washing that carpet and I don't know what to do :(

  • bhrsm Oct 08, 2010

Thank you for the pictures! It makes it a lot less confusing and not so frustrating :)

  • bhrsm Oct 12, 2010

I got as far as removing the filter cover. Now I'm stuck on the diagram for removing the spring clamp assembly that holds the door gasket to the lip of the front panel. Am I supposed to be removing the spring and metal ring attached to it that goes around the rubber? And if I have to remove the spring, do I need a special tool?, because on the picture it looks like a special tool is used. I hope I didn't take my machine apart for no reason. Please help.

  • bhrsm Oct 12, 2010

Will it be harder to put the spring back on? So far everything has been pretty easy and the directions you gave me are awsome. I just hope I can put it all back together. :)

  • bhrsm Oct 12, 2010

Yea!!! Okay, so I got the spring off and the front panel with door is off. Now what do I do to the pump assembly to clear it from the carpet remenents. Not sure how to take it apart.

  • bhrsm Oct 12, 2010

do you have pictures on how to disassemble the pump assembly?

The pump assembly where the drain hose connects to is where the filter located and can only be accessed with the removal of the front panel. Disconnect power and remove the screws securing the top panel to the rear of the machine then pull the panel back and up.

You need to remove the spring and metal ring that goes around the rubber (door gasket) and you may need a special tool but you can devise a way to stretch the spring apart and remove the hoop. You can stretch the spring using two pairs needle-nose pliers or ask a partner to pull the other end of the spring.

Just start putting the spring and hoop assembly at the top then work on both side until you reach the bottom where the spring part is situated.

Release the clamps holding each of the pump inlet and outlet hoses then remove the screws securing the pump assembly to the base of the machine. Take the pump assembly out of the cabinet then unscrew the pump motor from the housing.

This issue is due to drain pump or due to drain filter. This occurs due to a clogged drain pump or a drain filter or a kinked drain hose. You'll need to clean the drain pump and filter, if you are unable to find the pump and filter remove the back panel as well and trace the drain hose to the bottom of the tub. There is a drain filter connected with the drain pump. It usually gets clogged, and needs to be cleaned every 6-8 months or so. Please follow the below procedure to acess drain pump in your washer---

· Unscrew the 3 screws from upper of the canbinet cover.

· Unscrew the screw from filter cover.

· Put a flat ( - ) screwdriver or putty knife into the both sides of the filter cover, and pull it out.

· Unscrew the screw from the lower side of the cabinet cover.

· Open the door.

· Disassemble the clamp assembly.

· Tilt the cabinet cover.

· Disconnect the door switch connector.

· NOTE: When assembling the CABINET COVER, connect the connector.

· Lift and separate the cabinet cover.

· Disassemble the clamp assembly.

· Disassemble the Gasket.

· Separate the pump hose, the bellows and the circulation hose assembly from the pump assembly.

· Disassemble the pump assembly in arrow direction.

Hope this helps... If it does please do not forget to accept the solution or post back for assistance.

I have a Haier HWD1600 washer dryer combo that I am getting an error 2 on. It will not drain the water out and I have not been able to clear it for the past two months

Its a common error,
Error message:Drain error, water can be not drained fully within the required drain time
Reason 1. Pump filter is blocked.
Solution 1. Please open and clean the pump filter. (Filter access door is on the bottom right, at floor level of the washing machine)
Step 1.Push a flat blade screwdriver into the slot on the filter cover and pull it open ,do not use excessive force.(Fig 1).
Step 2.Remove the rubber hose from its clip and stand a suitable container under it, remove the bung to drain the water (Fig 2-3)
Step 3.Replace the bung and fit it back into its clip (Fig 4-5).

The washer will not drain I cleaned the bottom drain out and it was full of something that felt like kitty litter (it was not kitty litter) something fell apart when I was washing. I attempted to run a...

Your drain system is clogged with debris. Remove the filter from the bottom left door and look straight back inside the drain system, you will see more debris inside. Do not use a sharp object to remove the debris or you will puncture the rubber bellows. From the back of the machine, remove the back cover. At the bottom of the tub you will find a rubber drain hose that leads from the bottom the tank to the drain filter. Using your hand, gently squeeze the rubber drain hose to "massage" the leftover debris inside. This should help clean out the debris. WARNING: This will cause a major rush of water to come out so be prepared. Good luck

What is the F21 error code for?

Here is what the manufacture says about that error, my comments will follow.

LONG DRAIN If the drain time exceeds eight minutes, F21 will be displayed, the water valves will turn off, and the pump will stop running.

Press PAUSE/CANCEL to drain the machine. The display will be cleared and the machine will turn off after a maximum of eight minutes. Possible Causes/Procedure
1. Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects, and also make sure the hose from the tub to the pump is not plugged or kinked.
4. Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is running.
5. Plug in2_bing.gif washer or reconnect power.
6. If the above does not correct the problem, go to step 7.
7. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
8. Replace the pump.

Phil's comments -----> This error is usually due to something getting stuck in the drain pump or drain hose, typically after washing a rug with a rubber backing that has come off or small articles like baby socks that were not put into a garment bag prior to washing. To check the drain pump filter you will need to do the following: Unplug the washer, remove the 3 screws that hold the lower panel on the washer, they are on the bottom lip of the toe panel facing forward. Pull down and out on the panel to remove. You will see a white handle on a round container in the center near the front. Lay out several towels as you will make a mess with out them. Unscrew the cap (left, or counterclockwise) and pull out, the water will run out of the tub, up to a couple gallons depending on what was in there. Clean out the trap in your hand and anything you see inside the filter housing. Put the filter back in and screw in place. If you were able to remove something you may have fixed the problem, if not most likely the drain pump will need replaced. The drain pump is the black component right next to the filter you just removed and cleaned.

Water gets drained immediately without washing

When error message 4E is displayed, you should clean the water hose mesh filter. To do this:

1. Turn off the water source to the washing machine.
2. Unscrew the hose from the back of the washing machine.
3. With a pair of pliers, gently pull out the mesh filter from the end of the hose and rinse it under water until clean. Also clean the inside and outside of the threaded connector.
4. Push the filter back into place.
5. Screw the hose back onto the washing machine.
6. Turn on the faucet and make sure the connections are watertight.

Also, please check the following:
• Make sure the source water faucet is turned on.
• Check the water pressure.

OE is a drain error - Check there isn't a kink in your drain hose, ensure the filter is clean, the drain hose can become clogged with sludge, sometimes a hot wash with 1/2 a cup of vinegar will remove this sludge
