fan is not running at all to keep compressor cool. That is why refrigerator is getting hot. The only way it will run is if we unplug refrigerator and restart but even then fan shut off again. I have a little portable fan blowing in the back to keep refrigerator stable. Please help me

Simple solution move it to a draughty spot ,or if it backs onto an outside wall put a air vent in the wall as these things will get hot in a hot clinmate or a enclosed space between kitchen units

You might want to try to clean the condeser area by doing the following:

    1)Unplug the Refidgerator

There is no need for routine condenser cleaning in normal

home operating environments. If the environment is

particularly greasy or dusty, or there is significant pet traffic in

the home, the condenser should be cleaned every 2 to

3 months to ensure maximum efficiency.

If you need to clean the condenser:

     Remove the base grille.

Use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush to clean the grille,

the open areas behind the grille and the front surface area

    of the condenser.

Replace the base grille when finished.

    5.
Plug in refrigerator or reconnect power.

    It is worth a shot.

I just want you to know that it is not abnormal for that area to get pretty warm. It is supposed to to keep the frost build -up from forming.. Also, the condenser fan is not supposed to run consistantly. If the refridgerator has been unplugged for even a short amount of time, due to your fear of the heated area, when you plug it back in to the wall and turn it back on, it has to then remove all of the condensation that has formed from the temperature fluxuations. Which at those times will be Particularly heated. Try cleaning the compressor area from any dust or pet hair build-up with your vaccuum. Then Keep the refridgerator plugged in and let it "Do It's Thing", so to speak, for a Full 24 Hours. If at that time you still feel there is something wrong, Call the Whirlpool Helpline @

Good day,
What you had done, was the obvious solution. If the issue has been going on longer than 24 hours, then I would become concerned.
The possibilities that the issue remains after 24 hours is 1. was the replacement motor the correct one for your machine. They do interchange but are rated at different wattage's and speed, and need the proper blade attached ?? 2. Was the condenser coil cleaned at the time of repair. Next to a failed motor, dirt in the condenser coil is one of the prime causes for your issue ?? 3. If there are backing covers either metal or cardboard (see my tips section) were they reinstalled properly. They are critical on many models to properly duct the are across the condenser and compressor to properly cool them ??
Lastly, is the machine itself cooling properly, or if just recently restarted starting to cool down normally.
If there is an issue with no or poor cooling, then the hot mullion heater will be one of the effects.
Once again, if the time frame is under 24 hours, and cooling seems to be approaching normal, I would wait it out. Eventually the machine starts shutting off and on, reducing the heat problem your describing.

Inside refrigerator strip between the freezer and refrigerator

The condenser fan motor at the back near the compressor is either dirty or not running at proper speeds. Clean the coils for air flow over compressor and if the fan is not running replace the fan.

I have a 6th sense whirlpool 25.6 cu with water

First , remove the kick plate and make sure the coils are clean of dust . lint , pet hair , etc . Then pull the refrig out and remove the rear lower panel , covering the compressor and cooling fan ( evaporator motor ) . Make sure this motor is working , if the compressor is running . If the fan does not work , then replace it as soon as possible . This fan , cools the coils and the compressor , which if not working , causes the divider strip to become extremely hot , and could cause the compressor to have problems , due to the heat . After removing the rear panel , be sure to re-install it , as this is there , to direct the air flow as needed .

Mod# GS6SHEXNLOO Ser# GF827090B Strip between side by side doors is hot to touch, not luke warm. Fan in back is working but not cooling.

The fan which cools the compressor ? You cannot hear the fan that cools the compressor . Have to visually look , If you hear a fan , it has to be the freezer fan you are hearing .Remove the rear panel behind refrig to see compressor fan .

Door and rubbers are extremely hot and we are burrning ourselves while opening and taking food out

Your refrigerator has a stopped up Condenser Coil that needs cleaning with a vacuum cleaner. Also check that the Condenser Fan is working. The Condenser Fan may be bad....It sits under the bottom of the ref near the compressor and runs to cool the compressor. Hopes this helps! Handy Henry

Outside of refrigerator is hot - almost burning hot

The frame between the doors has a refrigerant line running through it to prevent moisture build up between doors (should be room temp. or slightly warm, not hot).
If that area between the doors is hot to the touch, you have two things to check: 1 - are the condenser coils under unit or in the back clean? 2 - is the condenser fan running in the back that is near the compressor running?

Ge side by side freezer refrigerator

That is called a heat strip. Used to keep moisture down around the door gaskets. You will need to roll unit out, take lower back plate off and check to see that the condinser fan is turning when compressor is on. If not, replace fan motor

Compressor is extremely hot

Compressor will be hot to the touch. You stated the fan was replaced and then said the fan is not cooling. If you replaced the fan and it is now operating, reinstall the panel you removed to install the fan motor. That panel determines proper air circulation to cool the system.

Losing coldness in freezer and fridge. side panels near freezer door are extremely hot to the touch. bottom back of the fridge is extremely hot.

Condenser is in need of being cleaned badly or your fan motor to cool the condenser is not operating. Compressor is overheating. Removed the panel in back of the refrigerator and clean the condenser so air can freely pass over it for heat removal. Allow compressor to cool off before restarting it.
