Question about Philips Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have two problems with my DTR220 freeview digital box. Firstly every night at 11pm it stops working and I have to turn on & off the power to get it back. Secondly, The BBC 1, 2,3 channels (multiplex 1) have a problem. They will be working one minute with signal 100% then after scrolling through all the channels if i go back to the BBC1, 2, 3 it says no signal. My aerial is connected vial a booster to split the signal across the house. & if i switch that on & off it fixes the signal (back to 100%), but if I swap between channels again the signal is lost again. (because the problem happens when I swap channels on the freeview box I don't think it is an aerial problem, even though turning on/off the booster fixes it temporarily) please help

First I would move the box closer to the booster (amplifier) if its furthest away from it. Do you have another box you can swap out in that location to see if the problem is the signal for some reason? I am not familiar with the boxes but, is it possible at 11 PM they are doing guide updates or possible software updates at that time? I know that here in the U.S. our two satelitte companies do guide and software updates but, those usually occur in the early morning hours of 2 AM. Hopefully that helps.

My Technika freeveiw hd box keeps going to standby could it be because it is turned off every night, does it need a perminant power supply?

freeview boxes generally update around 3am every night so yes you maybe correct as to the cause of it going into standby. It has to go into standby to update itself, same as when windows cant update because files are in use. try leaving it in standby at night and see if that resolves the issue

The clock motor has gotten weak and is now overheating, and will soon stop turning. There are no replacement clock motors for ML series power packs.

Problems withthe digital switchover and retuning my freeview box!

There are a few problems turning up as a result of the update. Do a factory settings on the box if it has the option to do so. Be aware of the actual transmitter you are on and the channels/frequencies it uses so when tuning you know whether its finding channels at the bottom, middle or top of the band. Sometimes you may need to unplug the aerial upto or after a particular channel to stop the box tuning unwanted transmitters. If you are picking more than 1 transmitter up you will often get extra channels in wrong locations

How have you got freeveiw connected to your set and what input are you using?
when connecting the freeveiw unit to the tv did you have the power connected and turned on to either tv or freeveiw?
how many sets are connected to the freeveiw unit,
All these things can affect this equation,

it sounds like the set had a power surge from the plugging in of the freeview,
the f connection output from the freeveiw set has a live voltage feed that powers either the mast head amp or the balun in the center of the dish,
for these to work correctly the cable between the freeveiw and the aerial/dish needs power,
this annoying little fault can only be remedied by taking it to the repair man,

Let us know the outcome thanks ,
hope this helps,

Connection problems with Philips DTR220

There is such a thing as a HD areial, but in this case it sounds like you need to point the antenna in the right direction. If your freeview is digital then there is a diredtion the areial needs to piont, and there is a front and a back to it. You need to find where the signal source is located and point the areial in that direction.

Philips DTR220/05 digital freeview reciever not recieving anymore

If the box is still receiving some channels, then the box is probably not at fault.

If you have done the full "First time Installation" rather than search for new channels, then eithe the aerial, connection or signal is likely to be to blame.

There have been several changes with the Freeview service over the last few months, and there will be more in the run up to analogue switch off.

In some cases, channels have moved, and in other cases the service has been switched off for a short period, low power etc.

Check the aerial on a standard analogue signal, if the quality is poor, then this rules out the box.
