I have a Mitsubishi WS65909. The IC chip has been replaced 6 times in the last 8 years. The first 2 times it lasted 3 years, the next 4 IC chips have blown every 2 month. Do you think this is something worth fixing...It is still a really good TV if it would not keep frying itself every couple months. Also if it is worth fixing can I have the step by step directions, I'm tired of paying someone top dollar for something that happens over and over. Thanks

SOURCE: TV Shuts off by iself!

Don't feel bad about Mits. All the projection companies and all the new TVs have markedly poorer reliability than the good old CRT types. You should see all the class action lawsuits against even some of the best companies!

The power supply section is not working.
Common possibilities are:
- Convergences amps have failed overloading the supply
- High-voltage section (flyback transformer) has failed
(happens sooner or later, about 8 years typical))
- CRT tube has failed overloading the supply
- Power surge has popped the power input circuit.
(Fuse, rectifier diodes, turn-on relay etc)
- One of a hundred of electrolytic capacitors has failed short overloading the supply. They dry out with age, are cheap to replace, but hard to find which one it is.
- Or any of many other possibilities.

In short, you need a experianced tech to troubleshoot this.

SOURCE: Vertical Black line 3 inch width on Plasma Samsung 42C96HD after 2 months of use

I also have the same problem I phoned Samsung today to explain the tv was only 14 months old, they didn't wanna no because it was out of warrenty by 2 months. I am getting a black solid line down the left hand side of the screen. I ended up phoning Dixons were we bought it from, they have told me to get an independent engineers report done & send the report to them within 14 days. Dixon told me it was a known problem with Samsungs. They said they will fix it free of charge if they can if not they will send vouchers to the same value of the television. So beware stay clear of Samsungs.

SOURCE: motherboard failures. 4 times in 2+ years.

No Offense rebeleyes1, but they are not looking for an explanation of what most people think. Maybe an e-machine was something perfectly fitted to their budget. Anyways..

Sy ellin, Ive just done about 2 hours of research and what Ive found, honestly, You might not like it. A bunch of other computer technicans curse your board and a couple other boards by MSI. The problem is unknown, some people claim their PCI-E slot just stops working (the slot on the mainboard where you can install a video card). Others claim if you do a BIOS update it might help the problem before it happends. This is quiet interesting to me because I have the same chipset on my mainboard, The Nvidia 6100. My Video card just went poof...So, You and I just might have found the problem. The best thing I can suggest is replace the mainboard in your computer. ASrock mainboards are good, reliable, and cheap. If there is anything else I can help you with, dont hesitate to ask.

6.Final check: put finger on ic top side surface (don't touch the IC lead)feel the temperature if too hot that's mean short between IC

The picture is running double lines

There is an IC (integrated chip) in the tv that can wear out or can get cold solder joints. Sometimes tapping on them helps, other times resoldering will help. Last possibility would be to replace the chip completely.

Looks like a black thumbprint blocking 1/3 of the screen. No LED's lit on front of TV. Started as black dots, and filled in almost completely. Initial lamp lasted 2 years. The replacement lamp lasted 3...

It looks like DLP chip is failing. It is installed on DMD board that in turn belongs to optical engine. Issue should get progressively worse. If you look at screen up close - you see that "tumbprint" consist of little small dark-gray squares, some of them flickering.
Cheapest solution - to replace DLP chip. instead of replacing whole optical engine.
This repair have to be confirmed (by running test patterns in service mode first) and done by professional.
Repair could cost aroung $400.
During procedure I would recommend to turn ceiling fans and other air blowing devices off. Single little dust speckle landing on the chip surface will ruing all effort and same amount of labor have to be applied yet again just to get rid of it (been there, done it).
Good luck.

Hi,

You get white spots inside the samsung DLP tv due to bad Digital Micromiror Device , or bad DMD board .

What is actually the problem is the DMV chip connected to this board . Inside this chip are 3 million tiny mirrors ,and when they physically get stuck , they either show black or white instead of a color
This is well know problem with SAMSUNG DLP...

The DMD chip is failing. If not under warranty expect to pay a few hundred to several hundred to get it fixed

The mirrors on the DLP chip are slowly sticking either fully open (white) or fully closed (black). The part that contains the DLP chip is the Light Engine. It is the most expensive part of the TV.Only the Samsung TVs has this issue.

Replacing the DLP chip and the micro mirror would solve this issue...

Pleaserate this solution,

GREEN LINES ARE OUT OF LINE

1.) THIS sounds like a convergence problem.

2.) Most of these sets use 2 convergence IC's and if you provide me model number I can tell you which ones your set uses.

3.) Usually just both chips need to be replaced and the set adjusted--sometimes there may be a resistor damaged by the chips when they fail.

4.) There is a reason this happens--the chips are mounted on one large or two smaller metal heat sinks to keep them cool---they are about 2 1/2 inches wide and 1 1/2 inches tall with the STK NUMBER printed on them in white(they are black in color--18 pins each.) When they are installed a white grease is applied to the metal back of each chip to move the heat fast--after 5-8 years the grease(called heat sink compound) dries out and one of the chips cannot move the heat fast enough and it fails.

5.) Both chips can be purchased on Ebay for less than 15 dollars for a pair plus shipping.

6.) Most shops charge 300-400 for this kind of repair--if you are able to do it yourself you can save a lot of money----if not shop around and make sure BOTH chips get replaced--I have done hundreds of sets in the last year here and I charge 200-250; Any good tech can do this repair in your home---if a shop tells you it has to "go to the shop" keep looking.

7.) Now is the slow time of year for most TV shops so if you cannot do the repair yourself shop around. 200-250 is a worthwhile repair and once it is done the new chips should last 5-8 years--These sets are much more dependable then the Plasma and LCD sets.

8.)If you have any questions or need advice reply to this posting here.

I do this here for free so if this information helps you take a minute and give me a vote here.

The color is not quite right now. Ther are a few waves of purple and green.

needs new convergence chips, part number is stk 392 -110, they need to be soldered in, also there might be some burnt resistors around the chips, you need to visually inspect them. you need solder skills and disassembly ability. might need a tv repairman.
