Question about Whirlpool LER4634J Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Hi. My dryer has an end of cycle timer which would not stop one day. I just turned switch to off but the next time I went to use my dryer nothing happened when I turned it on. I hear a humming noise but drum doesn't spin. It also seems to heat up and has a burning smell now.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. It seems to be the belt that has gone bad and to resolve this it should be replaced. Please check this video on how to replace the belt in dryer. Also check the tensioner pulley and replace it. Please accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Whirlpool dryer shuts off at the end of cycle, but timer continues to tick. It ticks through the next cycle and stops ticking at that cycles off?

follow this steps and fix it. God bless you

The timer could be the problem. To check this, turn the timer to a timed cycle say 30 minutes or so then time it. If in 30 minutes the timer hasn't moved and the dryer is still on, the timer is faulty replace it If in 30 minutes the dryer is off, the heating element is your problem

Heating Element
This is the most likely cause for some dryers timer not advancing. Some dryers have two heating elements and if one goes out the timer will not advance if you use it on an automatic cycle but you will still feel heat inside the tub. Replace it.

I have a electrolux ewx 14440w washer/dryer. its had a new door lock but the machine works sometimes and other times it double clicks and then stops........I put it on a 30 degree wash and it went through...

Hi shirleyb16 - I recommend to get a professional to diagnose the unit for repairs. From what you have described if the unit has a new door lock assembly, then you are going to either have a faulty timer or control board.

Samsung dryer DV328AER doesn't turn off

Hi,
My Samsung dryer 8KG (SDC3K801) is not turning off after completed the cycle time. The panel showing end but the drum still running. If I choose Synthetics extra dry with auto cycle time 49, when the timer at 6, the display increased again to 25. It's seem the dryer is not stopping forever. Any suggestion please!. Thanks

Replaced timer, new one stops turning and doesn't turn dryer off.

Some dryers have a "press guard" setting. This willkeep the dryer tumbling with no heat at the end of the cycle. Usually you can select it on or off and in some cases can set the time. see if you have this feature.

Timer and Shutoff

Go for the timer. The timer is nothing but a bunch of contacts and some minor electronics. When the timer reaches the end of it's cycle, it closes a set of contacts which sends power to the buzzer, which could be bad, therefore continued buzzing. If the timer continues on to the next cycle either the electronics or contacts are shot. This is also age dependant on the dryer how the timer is built. You might go into price shock depending on model. This is not ruling out that if you have a buzzer on off switch might be bad, but I doubt it. Hope this helps. If you are unsure and are good at reading schematics and a meter, then you can be sure.

Kenmore dryer

IF THE DRYER COMES ON BY ITSELF WHEN THE TIMER IS SET AND THE DOOR IS CLOSED, THE PUSH TO START SWITCH IS SHORTED. THIS WILL CAUSE THE END OF CYCLE SIGNAL TO BUZZ WHEN THE TIMER IS IN THE OFF POSITION(END OF CYCLE).UNPLUG THE DRYER, REMOVE THE BACK PANEL OF THE CONSOLE, AND REMOVE ONE WIRE FROM THE PUSH TO START SWITCH. ISOLATE IT SO IT ISN'T TOUCHING ANYTHING AND PLUG THE DRYER BACK IN. SET THE TIMER AND CLOSE THE DOOR. IF IT DOESN'T START UP OR BUZZ, UNPLUG THE DRYER AND REATTACH THE WIRE. PLUG THE DRYER BACK IN AND SEE IF IT STARTS BY ITSELF. IF IT DOES, THE PUSH TO START SWITCH IS SHORTED AND WILL NEED REPLACED.
