There's not too much you can do. Here's the way I did it:

Keep your finger held over the power button for a few seconds after it comes on; hold your finger over it again to turn it off, repeat this 2 or 3 times and this should default it to normal settings.

If you give me until tonight I can give you the step by step; I don't have my PS3 right in front of me - which is why i'm solving it so i can get back to you in 2 or 3 hours.

Respectfully,

Don

    OK, Here we go:

Turn your PS3 on with your remote.

Note: all of these directions will be with the D-pad on your remote, joystick is not accurate.

    1) If you have multiple profiles on your system, just hit X; if you don't, start at step 2

    2) scroll entirely to the right. Hold your right D-pad in for about 5 seconds

    3) Tap your left d-pad button exactly 7 times.

    4) Hold up on your D-pad for 5 seconds

    5) Press down on your D-pad exactly 11 times and hit X

    6) Hold up for about a second; hit X

    7) Hitt the down button 2 times and you'll be over the composite/s-video connector. RED/WHITE/YELLOW. Hit X

    8) YOU WILL NOT SEE IT YET, your screen will internally read "Press the x button. The screen will be displayed based on this setting. If the setting is not correct, the screen will go blank temporarily. Then after 30 seconds the system will go back to the previous screen." HIT THE X Button now.

This should have it fixed. For step 7, the first one is HDMI, hit down 1 it's component/D-terminal which is the GREEN/BLUE/RED, if you hit down 2x its the component/s-video, and if you hit down 3x it's AV MULTI/SCART.

Good luck. Please give me a good rating if I helped fix your problem

    Respectfully,

    Don

Hi our PS3 has no sound or picture. It does have the green power light on.

What is probably happening, is your PS3 is set for the wrong type of output. If you are using an HDMI cord, try switching to the AV cables that came with your PS3, and set your TV at the appropriate input to correspond with the AV hookups, and see if the picture works then.
If you are using the AV cables, it may have been set to HDMI accidentally. You need to use an HDMI cord, and hook the PS3 up to an HDMI compatible TV or monitor, and select the HDMI input. Once you get the picture working, go to Settings>Display Settings and set the display you wish to use.

I had my ps3 hooked up to an hd tv but my tv broke and i have it hooked up to an old tv now. I'm having trouble getting a picture or sound is there any way I can configure it to my old tv?

you need a tv with hdmi to connect too then change settings back to normal but you need it connected to both hdmi and component av at once so you can switch between them both to save the settings. so when you change from hdmi to av you need to change your tv channel from hdmi to either video 1 or 2 then save your settings... hope this helps!

ps3 comes with an av jack set as well as hdmi. now you can use the hdmi to the TV and run audio out from the TV to the receiver and that should work but if you don't have audio out on the TV then you need to go get the av cable

What to do with my Ps3??

Your PS3 auto-adjusted to the HDMI Input cable, so you will need to find somewhere that you can either get an HDMI cable or a HDMI TV, so you can view the screen. Then you can hook up the A/V jacks and go to your Videa and Audio Output Settings and choose them, disabling the HDMI hookup selected. Then you'll be back in business!

Your ps3 could be in component mode. You will have to hook it back up on component mode, and go to the ps3 menu and change the setting to hdmi.

did you move the ps3 while it was on. If you did the reset for AV should repair both the AV problem and your HDMI as well. Shoot me a message back if it works or doesn't.

Thx

Ps3 hdmi-av

i currently have the exact same problem...i always play HDMI but i went home from college for thanksgiving and wanted to play on a regular AV jack TV, hooked up, and have no picture whatsoever...and i think it's because of the settings on the PS3 since it's set to send out an HD signal...Well i found this straight from Playstation3.com, on the support/troubleshooting section

"
  • If the video output settings on the PLAYSTATION®3 do not match those of the cable or TV in use, there may be no picture. If the screen goes blank, turn off the system.
  • Then, with only the PLAYSTATION®3 and the TV connected, touch the system's power button for more than 5 seconds to turn the system back on. The video output settings will automatically be reset to the standard resolution."
Hope it helps =)
