The 6Bk (small black cartridge) does not feed ink through despite several DEEP cleaning operations. All other tanks fine. PIXMA iP5000.

I've taken out the cartridge and put it back! Put another one in. Turned off and on my printer and even turned off printer and PC. Started printer and then rebooted PC. Cartridge clicks in properly.

Canon ip5000 printheads can be replaced. From the USA they are $50. From the UK they are £48. Does anyone know if they are different? It makes sense to buy one from the USA, but not if (say) the voltages or something is incompatible.

Resetting the ink level display is carried out by switching your printer on and off .

Hope it should help.

I can get a new canon print head (iP5000) from UK for £48 or from the USA for $47. Are they different? (voltage etc?) Does anybody know?

Canon iP5000 not printing black

Here is the link to the user guide if you need it; http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=257&modelid=10439 If you have performed all the operations in there with no success, then the part of the printhead that is under the 6bk has some blockages. This is best cleaned by dripping some ink flush solution (use gin if you have none) into the print head from above (just at the point where the hole on the ink cartridge would sit. Very gently swab with a q-tip from below with more fluid. After a day or so with the fluid penetrating from the top, clean the bottom again, clean out any excess fluid you can from the top (don't get any q-tip fluff in there). Then run a clean/test again. Hopefully this can solve your problem after a few cleans, but blocked Canon printheads are not always unblockable. You can purchase the complete replacement printhead, although I wasn't able to find a price - this link for service; http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ServiceLocatorAct&fcategoryid=184&modelid=10439 Hope this helps :)

Empty the overflo ink tank on a canon ip5000 printer

The waste ink absorbers on a Canon are pads that are under the print engine and cover the whole bottom. It is a major dissasembly where the covers come off, cables and plugs un plugged, power supply removed, and then you need a shop to reset the counters.

While cleaning my print head on my canon pixma ip5000 I have a message saying ink absorbtion tank full, any ideas please

absorber needs to be replaced by a Canon tech, so that the error can be cleared in the diagnostic mode. The part is only about $10.00, but at least 1 hour labor.

Canon PIXMA MP140 can't recognize the cartridge even though the ink tank is full

Make sure the cartridge is seated properly. Clean printer heads when installing according to instructions. Don't cut corners and just try and print, so through all the steps. Sometimes just turning your printer off and then back on helps too. Sounds like it doesn't know it has a new cartridge.

Color printing

I removed the ink tanks then I removed the print head very carefully.
I rinsed the print head with the cleaner that comes with my refill
bottles, let it dry and carefully reinserted the print head. I "cleaned"
the nozzles and ran nozzle check and it worked fine.

I no longer trust this iP5000 printer for photos so I have purchased a new
Canon iP6700D which is great. I will use both printers...only using
the new one for photos only.

The main thing I have learned from my Canon printers is not to clean
the print heads as often due to that "Absorber almost full" message!
I still like the Canon for the ink capacity and separate tanks.

Your site has been so helpful! Thank you!

Can't I print with only one black ink

I have a similar machine ip5000. Currently have a problem getting the big one to print and have posted for a solution elsewhere. If I print withjust the small tank it does some black work i.e. type but it needs the other big tank to give full photo pictures.

If you are just looking to print typing try changing your font collour to a dark blue or other. This gets round the black problem but you will need the 2nd black cartridge for full colour work.

Hope this helps.
