Question about Brother MFC-7820N All-In-One Laser Printer

1 Answer

I have a Brother MFC-7820N. I get an eror message to slide the blue tab side to side. That did not clear it. I tried lubricating the drum rollers and cleaning the contact wires. That did not clear it either. I called Brother - they said it was caused by my not using Genuine Brother parts. Genuine Brother parts would have cost me an additional $200 per year over generic drums and toners - I can buy a whole new machine every two years for that! My question: Is there an upgrade on the newer MFC 7840W that prevents my problem? Or should I replace this unit with the same model so that I can use the stock that I have on hand?

I don't quite understand your answer. It is too vague.

Are you saying my problem is caused by the generic drums?

Are you saying my problem will be resolved by using the Genuine Brother drums?

Are you saying that if I get a new unit, I will have the same problem if I don't use Genuine Brother?

Is that your experience? Why? I have friends that use generics and have no problems. Why me?

    Please respond accordingly.

    thanks

Hello,

Replacing the unit might not still solve the problem, because sooner or later, you will still face this same problem again, i will advice if you can discard or sell the stock on the unit you still have at hand and adhere or go for a better option that will be cheaper in maintenance, this will save you alot of stress and money by so doing, but replacing the unit might still bring you back to square one again.

And on the MFC 7840W, you are still required to adhere to their maintenance instruction, otherwise, you will face same problem.

Take care.

    Hello,

Yes, the problem is caused by the generic drum and it will be solve by using
the Genuine Brother drums, i will like you to understand you might buy two machine the same day, same product, one might last last you longer than the other, pending on the usage and maintenance performed on the machine, atimes, luck also count, in this case, your other colleagues might just still be fortunate or perform a good maintenance check often.

Perhaps, if you get a new unit, you might not experience same problem, but note, it always advice to stick to the maintenance procedure of the producer.

Does the Brother MFC-440 CN have a roller or drum? We are getting lines on our copies when we copy by inputting the papers in the feed tray.

The first thing I would try is to fix the corona wire. Here is a link to Brother's website outlining the process (clean corona wire).
What you need to do is pull out the drum and look for a blue tab on the top of the cartridge. Slide that tab back and forth along the wire and see if that clears things up.
I have had some luck cleaning the drum when I get black streaks but I have also hear this can be dangerous and make the problem worse.

You might have gotten toner on the corona, take the toner/drum unit out there is a blue knob. slide that a couple of times and try it.

Prints a black streak whether I copy, or print, not dirty glass on Brother 7820N

Try cleaning the corona wire of the drum unit.

You need to open the front cover of the machine and remove the cartridge (drum and toner) On the top right there is a tab that you need to slide from left to right about 20 times, then bring back to home position

My printer is giving me a message as follows drum error- take out drum and slide blue tab from side to side a few time. where is the drum?

When you open the door in front pull out the drum/toner assy. You will see a blue piece on top left side. It will slide right and left. Do it 5 times. Leave it all the way to the left and reinstall it. steven 818-888-0006

Brother MFC 7820N Printed paper has toner ink layered on paper

you can remove the toner and drum from the machine, slide the tab back and forth about 20 times then blow in the slot. when you put it back in the machine if the problem keeps happening it would be a problem with the toner cartridge and it would need to be replaced

the reason this happens to toner cartridges is because the rubber roller tarts to wear out.

Open the front cover and take out the toner/drum unit. On the top of the drum unit you will see a blut tab that you can slide side to side. Do this 10+ times and this should fix your issue. Make sure to put the blue tab back in the original start position which is believe is to the left on that model.

Brother mfc 7820n toner cartridge issue

Look at the left side of the cartridge next to the blue release button. There should be a white tab in an arc slot. If the white tab is anywhere but all the way to the right, it does not recognize the cartridge. Try truning the drum and pushing the white tab down to the right, it shoudl reset it and find the cartridge.

Dust on Drum...

I had this problem too. I took out the drum and vacuum the drum with a vacuum cleaner ( no brush ) while at the same time manually rotate the drum cyclinder. It worked. After a month or two, you might have to do it again. But everytime, it solved the dust problem.

Heavy black line on right margin

Check corana cleaner is in home position, it is a blue tab on drum that slides width of drum to clean charge wire, try sliding up and back a couple of times and make sure it sits at home position marked with an arrow.
