Question about Gateway GM5084 PC Desktop

Open Question

I replaced my mobo but need help with rewiring it. I have 2 cables, 1 solid black the other twisted orange, black & green wires with a twisted blue & white wires. Both have 9 female connectors. I see 2 9 male connections on the mobo but I don't know which goes where. I took pictures before removing everything but my wife lost the camera. I don't want to gamble connecting them to the wrong spots & possible short out the mobo. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.
click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

SOURCE: The male pin connector for the cpu fan shorted out .

Not so much a reroute as a different source. Do I assume you have perhaps a smaller 3-pin connection and would rather go with a larger 4 pin (or vice-versa)? There are splitters that will let you run a second 4 pin off of a single connection (about $5). If you want a 3-pin, there will be a space for that on your motherboard. Ensure when buying a new fan that it has the proper connector if it doesn't come with both.
If this isn't what you were looking for in an answer, could you explain what it is you're trying to do? Thanks

you should be able to either get the right cable or get an adapter at a computer store.

Leave the disks off and see if you can get to the BIOS. If so, that probably is your problem. Set the BIOS to reflect the disks you have.

Those are the power switch button wires. They should slide onto the motherboard only one way. Look very carefully and the plastic should be molded for one fit.

I have two phone lines one for phone and one for fax is there any way i can connect my fax machine to the fax line only and not have to use an adapter

You can have the single out jack replaced with a dual outlet jack. To rewire it yourself, use the Blue/Blue White wires for Line 1 and use the Orange/Orange White wires for Line 2. If you older wiring then the colors are Green/Red for Line 1 and Yellow/Black for Line 2.

Telephone jack wiring

Most cheap jacks have 4 wires, red, green, yellow & black. Most modern houses have wires paired up (twisted pair) like blue & white with blue line or stripe. Line 1 is red/green or blue/white. Line 2 is yellow/black or orange/white(with orange line/stripe).

Hello

Your cat5 will make up 4 pair. org/org/wht being one pair and so on.

So as long as you keep them in pairs you will be ok.

Meaning. Pair one from cat5 org and org/wht to wall plate wht and brn. This would be one complete pair.So the wall plate colors are different from cat5 but as long as you stay in pairs and go from left to right on your conections you should be ok.

3-pair version of (red/green, black/yellow, white/blue). But the first two pairs are not twisted
So it becomes green/red, yellow/black, & white-black/blue. G1/ R2 /3Y /4B /5*Blk/6Blue (this is what you physically see on the other RJ11 connections since this is a data connection and not a phone connection it should be a straight-through instead of cross-over connection.
These RJ 11 PINOUT assignments may be incorrect because they apply to a color camera instead of B/W

RJ11-e starts off like a RJ45 Stranded Patch Cable.
The color code used in stranded patch cables is different from solid-conductor cables. For NorTel Digital Patch Cable (DPC), the coding is; Pair 1: Green & RedPair 2: Yellow & BlackPair 3: Blue & *Orange White\Black
*In Pair 3 the color coding is Blue & Black instead of Blue & Orange and the pair is twisted so that the Blue wire is the 6th pin instead of the 5th pin.

Wiring on a RCA RJ-45 wall jack

the RJ45 wallplate is not meant for ethernet. It's an 8P8C connector for a phone. Will it work as a network jack? Maybe. I wouldn't use it, but if you really want to try, wire it thusly:

1 Blue --- Orange/White
2 Orange --- Orange
3 Black --- Green/White
4 Red --- Blue
5 Green --- Blue/White
6 Yellow --- Green
7 Brown --- Brown/White
8 White --- Brown

I'd still recommend a CAT5 wallplate with a CAT5 jack.

Replaceing phone wall plate

Hi Leanne!

Normally the conductors in phone cable are colored green, red, black and yellow in older style wiring. Green and red are used for a single line, and black and yellow are for a second line. Newer systems use wires that have conductors twisted together in pairs. White with a blue stripe paired with solid blue or blue with a white stripe is line 1. White with an orange stripe paired with solid orange or orange with a white stripe is line 2. (At least this is true in the US. You said "cheers" so maybe you're not in the US and the color coding's different.)

Chances are your line is using the blue and white wires.Residential telephone equipment isn't polarity sensitive so it really doesn't matter which wire you hook to L+ and L-. Try the white/blue combination first. If you don't get dialtone then try red/black. If still no luck you only have two more combinations to try.

Before you start with the wiring, take another phone on the line off the hook (if you have another one). This will prevent an incoming call from ringing the line, which can give a shock if you happen to be touching a bare end. The ringing voltage is much higher than the normal phone line voltage which won't bother you.

Just use 568-B or 568-A on both ends of the same cable.
