Question about Marantz DR-4050 2-Disc CD Recorder

1 Answer

4050 Hello I have a Marantz DR 4050 for repair, the left hand record/play deck will not recognise a CD (says no disk) I have cleaned the lazer but can not find any adjustment, do I have to replace the lazer or the whole unit? If so where do I get spares? I am in Spain but can have stuff delivered to England. Regards Kevin Mooney

Thanks for that Dan it's what I thought but it's nice to have confirmation. They are Phillips decks so I can probably get generic parts.

The optics are most likely defective. Yes you will need to replace the optics assembly. I don't have a location for parts outside of the US, but you should be able to locate a parts distributor for Marantz in Europe.

I have a de recorder 4050 when I try to put a track of a vinylalbum on cd, it stops after 20 seconds what can I do about it?

YOU mean "CD" recorder, right? A recorder will typically stop recording in the extended absence of audio.

And the track that is recorded - what does it sound like? If it's silence then you need to track your source back to its origin through the undefined electronics and find out why the signal isn't getting through to the recorder.

It's a data disc, not the required CDR-AUDIO or -MUSIC disk it needs to record.

Where can I get CD-R's that will work on this machine in Australia these days? ie Are there any non audio marked CD-R's that will work in it? I have tried Verbatim and TDK CDr's without any success. I have...

I don't know about availability of CDR-A or -Music in Australia but they are the only media that home CD Audio Recorders are designed to use.

Regarding the CD-RW Audio disks - I've used them for quite some time and do eventually get uncorrectable errors on them but never No Disc displays. Just the same, I don't consider them reliable enough for vital long term storage of music and use my PC to copy them to a CDR as soon as I can. Being a data- rather than real-time-music copy, I reckon the PC may be able to retry errors it encounters and maybe correct them during the copy.

The player wont record. All other functions fine including playback and finalising.

You mean it records silence? if it finalises then it does recognise and burn to the disc- so the laser/drive seems to be ok..

If silence, bear in mind there are analogue, optical and coax digital inputs to chose from for record source

Don't forget too these units need the special CD-R audio discs not CD-Rs to record to.

Not recognising that there is a cd in there. keeps saying 'no disk'

Hi there , have you tryed cleaning the lazer lens very gentle with a cotton bud , the lazer could be quite costly to replace , there is a very small ajustment on the lazer inside the unit but would need someone with a bit no how to ajust the setting a very small amount to see if the lazer will work better .
