Yes, you can buy the timer and not replace all of the lights.

After lighting strike my grasslin gm40 only works manually are the relays fried?

1) Something is fried. Probably the electronics if relays turn on-off with override.

http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-Whole-house-surge-protector.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-GE-15207-timer.html

2) Try moving dip switches to different voltage, and change wiring and voltage for possible work around.
For example if you are controlling 240Volt, then move dip switches to 120V and run neutral wire to timer and use one 120V hot leg from 240Volt circuit to power clock motor.

3) If timer module is not rotating, then remove module for identifying marks on back. Order new FM1 timer module.

4) There is no reset protocol for this timer, or surge protection. Timer has one year warranty against workmanship defect. There are no replacement circuit boards.

5) Buy cheaper-made GE 15207 timer at Home Depot. Then if timer goes bad, buy another timer and return defect in new box for refund. This gives timer owner unofficial extended warranty.

Cannot set the time or program the on/off cycle, only the reset button and manual on/off button work

Is this new timer, or old timer that stopped working.
Which timer do you have? Add a comment and describe the buttons.
Most plug-in digital timers have rechargeable battery, but some still have replaceable battery.
If battery has gone bad, then that matches description of problem you describe
Replace battery if timer has replaceable battery, otherwise buy new timer for $10 at local box store.

Timer has non-replaceable capacitor battery for 15 minute carryover during power outage.
Timer can be affected by radio and TV receivers. Unplug those devices and check if function is restored.
Reset timer and program again.

Timer has 1-year limited warranty, and is rated for incandescent only, up to 150Watts.

I replaced a Intermatic light timer with a GE 15086 timer. I have read several solution, but none fit my wire sceme. This is hooked up as a 3-way switch so the second switch can turn outside lights on...

1) GE 15086 is not a 3-way timer.
GE programmable timers are for single-pole switch replacement only. I have tested this timer, and own several GE timers, and many other brands.

2) Open following link to identify timers that work for 3-way switching.
http://waterheatertimer.org/GE-timers-and-manuals.html#15071

3) After buying correct timer, then you need to review wiring diagrams carefully because the timer replaces 1 of the 3-way switches, but other 3-way switch has to be wired exactly right to match your brand of timer.

4) Links on page above show manuals for each of the 3-way timers. Compare wiring for each timer with Intermatic wiring that you are replacing, because Intermatic is wired differently than Aube.

5) Or just buy another Intermatic ST01C or EJ500 or EI400, etc, and wiring with change out 1 for 1.

The clock motor has gone bad.
There are no replacement clock motors.
To work around, buy cheap plug-in timer, set power pack to override and plug power pack into cheap timer.

Can i buy parts to replace the internal parts? my timer works but will not click the tab light something is stripped.

You can buy trippers for Intermatic ML series, but there are no replacement clock motors or transformers.
I don't know if tripper is the problem or maybe clock motor is getting weak, and will stop working.
If timer is not working, but manual override works, then buy cheap plug-in timer and plug power pack into cheap timer.

Had to replace a fixture today. when I replugged the lights the lights turn on manually but the clock on the timer does not advance I have 56 watts of light Is the timer broken?

If clock motor does not rotate, then some people report taking it apart and cleaning gears.
The PB912M10 timer clock motor is not sold separately. Aug 2010.
If power pack transformer still works: buy cheap plug-in timer, set power pack to override, and plug power pack into cheap timer.
With receipt, power pack might still be under warranty.

My automatic timer is not working.

You posted under Intermatic raintight timer.
Add a comment with your model and brand and I have extensive files on timers.

The best diagnostic is the manual override.
1) Click manual override and see if Load (lights, fan, motor) come on.
If manual override clicks on-and-off crisp and clean, but the lights do not come on, check your electric power.
If the manual override does not click crisp and clean, then the timer may be rusty, or timer may need to be replaced. Buy replacement timer and swap out timer mechanisms without changing the box.
If the manual override works fine, and Load turns on-and-off with manual override, then the clock or trippers are next suspect.

2) Check if the dial is turning as time passes.
If the dial is not turning, then the clock motor is bad and you can buy a new clock motor.
If dial is turning, and manual override turns Load on-and-off, then the tripper pins might be worn out, and you can buy new trippers.

3) To buy replacement parts: Timer door has model number of timer. Timer clock located on back of timer mechanism has identifying numbers. You can snap out the timer mechanism using metal spring locate top inside box.

Yes i have an intermatic timer for my outside lights mounted on my wall inside. it seemed to have stopped working. nothing is on display and i changed the battery

If you have a battery-operated Intermatic timer, then it is the ST01C or EJ500.
The advantage of the battery is simple wiring when you replace a light switch.

http://waterheatertimer.org/Intermatic-st01c.pdf

http://waterheatertimer.org/Intermatic-ej500c-manual.pdf

Both of these timers have troubleshooting in their manuals.
Both timers come with a 1 year warranty.

I have tested the wiring, operation and programming of the Intermatic timers and many other in-wall timers.
If the display does not light up on ST01C or EJ500, then the battery is the only reason.
If the battery is not working, then the timer is broken.
You might try cleaning the battery terminals and connectors located inside the pull-out tray.

geno_3245_3.jpg

These small electrical devices do not have repair parts.
When the timer goes bad, you buy a replacement timer.

You can buy another Intermatic battery-operated timer and keep the simple wiring:
http://www.aplussupply.com/intermatic/timer.htm

You can also buy Aube T-1034 rechargeable-battery-operated timer.
The T-1034 is strictly sunrise-sunset.
The T-1070 is sunrise-sunset -and/or- multi-day programs

The page below explains the Aube
http://waterheatertimer.org/Aube-timers.html

The links below sell the Aube
http://michaelselectric.com/catalog/index.php?manufacturers_id=60
http://www.amazon.com/Aube-Honeywell-TI070-3W-Switch-Programmable/dp/B001QFZ404

T-1034 and T-1070 wiring is slightly different than Intermatic, and you can add a comment and I will help you with any wiring question.
