> cannot be formatted

It seems to be "broken" -- either physically or electronically.

Exercise the SanDisk warranty to get it replaced.

I would just like to know how format a dvd-r after its been used i used win7 formating software but all it did was format my cd but it went from 4.7gb to 3.2 gb please help

there are two ways to do format:
1. put your un-formated dvd in drive and right click from my computer on the dvd drive, it will give you the format option
2. you can use any application like nero burning rom etc for formating, even other tasks like copying and all
as fas as the capacity concern the disk may have some data, otherwise it shows full capacity

My Kodak EasyShare DX4530 is not formatting. I got a new memory card for it and it isnt formatting to it, it trys to but just keeps doing the same thing over and over, "memory card needs...

Maybe it is having trouble with the size of the memory. Memory cards have grown enormously in capacity in the last couple of years, and even relatively new cameras may not be able to cope with the memory size of the newest cards. SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards.

Camera screen says - card not initialized

You need to format the card. There will be a function in the camera setup to do this, or you can do it in a card reader on a computer using the computer's disk format function.

Tho other possibility is that the camera cannot make sense of the card because it is too large a capacity. Memory cards have grown rapidly and even year old computers may not be compatible with the latest high capacity cards.

Maxtor hard drive format error

Yes, in vista you need to expand the volume. To do this you will need some guidance. A good site with pictorials so you can see the screen shots of what to do is http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial133.html

Hard Drive lost capacity

You cannot just 'loose' most of the capacity on a hard drive unless you have some serious issue and if that was the case, I would not even recommend you using it! What I suspect, because of its size, is that you are only seeing one of the formatted (recovery) partition. In order to use the rest of the hard disk, with the proviso that you want to keep the existing small partition, you need to create and format additional partitions. This is not a trivial task, but the following is the summary on where to find the facility: Control Panel -> Admistrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management -> Your Hard disk will be displayed with all existing partitions: after which you can use the context menu to delete/create partitions, Format partitions and assign a drive letter so that you can use the formatted partitions. Hope it helps: let me know how you go!
