No heat, but unit seems to run normally in all other ways - possible causes: failure of high voltage rectifier, shorted high voltage capacitor, magnetron failure, power transformer open/shorted winding(s), thermal protector open, or no 120 v supplied to power transformer.

Kitchenaid Superba KEMS307D Microwave buzzes, looks like it works, but doesn't heat. Full normal display, tray rotates, but fan doesn't sound normal.

Most likely causes - shorted high voltage rectifier, or failed high voltage transformer, or shorted high voltage capacitor, or shorted magnetron. If an odor accompanied the failure, high voltage rectifier or transformer most likely. All of these components operate on 4000 v, or more - with enough current to kill you. Make sure the unit is unplugged, and the high voltage capacitor is fully discharged before testing.

The heat is inop - everything else works on my R-1754 Sharp. Any common problems?

If the fan and turntable are not working when you try to cook, it's likely a bad bottom door switch or mount. See this file.

If the fan and turntable ARE working when you try to cook, the problem is the primary interlock switch, the inverter, the magnetron, or a connection between one or more of them.

We have a sound clip of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are working.

We have the service manual at our site and have uploaded it here to help you.

I have a sharp microwave, model #R-1470. It's about 14 years old. I went to use it and it sounded like a power surge and then lost all power. I checked the electrical outlet and it has powere to it. Is...

We have a similar model's service manual at our site which will help you, but note that the part numbers will not be the same.

It's here: http://031d26d.namesecurehost.com/mwd//r1480_r1481_r1482_sm.pdf

If I had to bet, I would say the high voltage rectifier diode or high voltage capacitor shorted and blew the fuse.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html
(if it's not shorted or burned, it's probably okay)

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/cap_test.html

Once you replace the fuse (15A or 20A fuse available at hardware stores, etc.), if it goes dead again almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it goes dead several seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If it runs fine but won't heat, you have a bad high voltage rectifier diode and/or magnetron.

A loud buzz, hum, or groan is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, but a sound like gurgling into an empty coffee mug is one symptom of a failed magnetron, and yet the mag can be bad without that sound.

You can order Sharp parts from Encompass here or you can call them toll-free at 866-779-5835.

Sharp r-1850a everything works but the microwave portion of the oven. Will not heat water.

We have service manuals at our site which will help you:

http://www.microwavedisplay.com/r1850a_r1851a_r1852a_sm.pdf

Some questions to ask as you or someone you know checks it out.

When you try to microwave are the inside light, internal cooling fan and turntable all working?

If not, then it may be as simple as a door switch.

If so, then it may be a bad magnetron. It can be tested.

Is there any unusual noise or is it louder or quieter than normal?

A loud buzz, hum, or groan is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, but a sound like gurgling into an empty coffee mug is one symptom of a failed magnetron, and yet the mag can be bad without that sound.

I bought a Sharp Carousel 1100 watt microwave about 8 months ago but now it makes a louder noise when it's on and it doesn't heat. Can I easily fix this myself or is this now trash?

A loud buzz, hum, or groan is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, but a sound like gurgling into an empty coffee mug is one symptom of a failed magnetron.

Since it's less than a year old, it's fully under warranty and Sharp will fix it free.

You can contact Sharp at 1-800-BE-SHARP (1-800-237-4277) or visit them online to get it fixed.

It's not getting heat and LCD looks like there's water inside.

On most Sharp Carousel Microwaves, the display stops working after time. As for the not getting any heat, the magnetron or the high voltage transformer may not be working.

Everything works but will not heat.

When the microwave sounds okay, but there's no heat, one of the internal door switches, the high voltage circuitry, or the circuit board may have a problem. To resolve this problem, you need the assistance of a qualified appliance repair technician.

I would say the high voltage rectifier diode has blown.

See http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html for help in diagnosis.

Okay, now that I see the model number, that's a US model:

You can usually find exploded views and order parts by entering your model number here at the Sears parts site.
