Question about LG 47LG50 47 in. LCD HDTV

1 Answer

MY 47LG70 TV turns itself on in the middle of the night with the message flashing in the middle of the screen "This function is not available now". The only way to get it to quit is to turn the power off and then sometimes it will last awhile before it returns no matter what you are watching on TV. When it is flashing and you are trying to watch a show, you can't adjust the volume or use the remote. They won't work. It also makes beeping noises at times like it is setting a code. I have had it in twice for repair under the extended warranty I bought with it. They have replaced the power supply and logic board I think is what he said. Still same problem. HELP!

This worked for me! Our 47LG70-UG was turning on spontaneously, changing input, channels, volume and menu options. After trouble shooting for remote control issues and intereference with no luck, I tired this and it worked. Thanks for the info!

I had the same problem. I took a couple screws off the back left side of the tv, unplugged the wiring harness that ran from the side touch buttons to the pcb and my tv works perfectly again. I never used those buttons anyways so that was the perfect fix for me.

I followed the same steps. Put tv screen face down on the floor on four pillows for protection. Remove the tv stand which is supported with 4 screws. Remove the screws on the back of the tv all around the frame, almost 16 screws. Slowly the bottom left corner of the plastic back cover of the tv. Unplug, carefully, the wire harness that runs from the side tv control buttons to the power control board (PCB). Reconnect all the screws back. Reattach the tv stand with the 4 screws. You should be all set. The only negative is that your side tv control buttons are now disabled. Most of the people don't use them anyway. We all use the remote control. It took me 15minutes. It is very simple. The tv works perfectly now with the remote control. The power doesn't turn on by itself and "this function is not available now" flashing note on the screen is gone. All remote functions works all the time. Thanks to jjb6. You probably saved me two to three hundred dollars since my warranty has already expired. S.E. September 1st, 2011.

this totally worked for me. Thank you so much!! YAY, we were living with this problem for a long time, and I was considering just buying a new TV.

Also, you don't have to remove the stand nor take out ALL the screws, just enough to pry the cabinet open so you can unplug the side button wire harness.

Lg tv has flashing warning

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices

My 47lg70 turns itself on and off all night long. It is connected to a HD box from comcast, also has a DVD and stereo receiver connected to it and they are turned off.

There can be several causes for this, few of which you can do anything about. However, a few things to try:

1) Replace the batteries on your remote control.
2) Try resetting the logic functions on your tv by unplugging it for a minute, then plugging it back in.
3) Try covering up the infra-red receptor on the front of your TV to see if you're getting unwanted signals from the receptor. taping a piece of foil over that area is perfect. If it doesn't stop after doing these two things you'll probably need to take it to a shop.
4) If this does stop it, then look for unexpected signal sources. Have you added a remote control extender? Added a new device to your audio-video system? Changed to a new remote?

I hope this helps. Joe

Perhpas the TV has a timer function that is turning it on at a certain time. Does it seem to occuring at the same time of night? check the TV settings for a timer.

The only other possibility is that the camper is losing AC power in the middle of the night, and when the power comes back on perhaps the TV is turning on.

However, i rather suspect the first problem...

I am a certified RV technician, so if you have other problems with your camper please let me know

Not Available Flashing

My Samsung TXN3271HF had the same issue where the poorly-designed Soft-Touch channel button begin to register phantom touches (leading to the "Not Available" message flashing on the screen).

The fix is simple: remove the plastic strip containing the Soft-Touch buttons and when replacing the strip, leave some room between the buttons and the TV's circuit board (you will see the circuit board once you remove the plastic strip).

Hope this helps.
