Question about Amana Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a bottom freezer model that also freezes on top! I've cleaned the coils underneath (and it was pretty bad), and that seemed to work for about a week, but now the unit seems to run alot even though I have it set at the lowest setting. Everything is frosty and in fact, milk, juices, etc., that are placed on the left side of the refrigerator freeze solid. If there is something I could do before calling for service, I'd like to try. Thanks.

Cleaning the coils is always a good idea, that's how the unit disipates the heat it pumps from the inside of the box. clean coils make it work more efficiently. Frosty suggests a door gasket leak, allowing fresh, moisture ladden air in, that turns to frost. Runs all the time- check door gaskets. they are replaceable. Could also be a bad thermostat. thermostat is running the fridge, trying to reach the set temperature but won't shut off when it reaches it. Unplug the fridge or shut off the breaker is easier. (good wiring practice mandates a dedicated circuit for refrigerators). change the thermostat.

Does the model cool by allowing cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator or does it have separate cooling equipment like some sub zero's? Is there something blocking air flow from the freezer to the refrigerator?

Freezer side not freezing

Check for ice / frosting inside the freezer .... If present you probably have a defrost problem.... This causes the freezer coil to ice up and block the air flow ... the causes could be a bad defrost heater , defrost timer, defrost sensors, or control board. Also make sure that the condenser coil is clean. remove ALL dust with a vacuum and a coil brush .the coil is located either on the bottom or on the back side of the unit... KENMORE MODEL 363.58062894 fROST FREE IS FREEZING UP. i HAVE CLEANED THE COILS UNDERNEATH AND DEFROSTED IT MANUALLY. HOW CAN I FINISH TROUBLE SHOOTING IT

Sounds as if the actual defrost tube has gone bad. What this defroster does is keep the build up of ice from the inside of the freezer. This defrost tube is located between the freezer and fridge just above the evaporator fan motor inside the fridge. You can possibly access the area from the bottom of the freezer unless it is a bottom freezer with fridge on top then the access would be from the fridge base.

An appliance parts house should have the diagram for this replacement if you take the model and serial number to them they may give you a printed diagram of the part needing to be replaced.

Good luck hope this helped you some

Freezer not freezing

When was the last time you cleaned the condenser coils? They are either on the bottom of the unit (underneath) behind the grill, or on the back of the refrigerator. Use a refrigerator cleaning brush' (available at most home centers) to do the cleaning, or call an appliance service technician to accomplish this. After that, it could also be the compressor, or the condenser fan (bottom mounted coils), or a 'freon' leak. Call a repairman then!!

The freezer is hot on the outside

Make sure the evaporator coils on the back or underneath near the compressor are clean. If there is a fan near the coils make sure it's running.

Can't find refrigerator coils/ cooling issues

There're two coils ,the condenser coil wich you already clean (also make sure the condensing fan motor works properly and the fan blades are also clean). The other is the evaporator coil wich is located inside the freezer behind the back wall cover.

Freezer not cooling enough to make ice.

well countney778 it sounds like either your drain is clogged upo and holding water in the freezer or your defrost timer is bad. the timer shoiuld be by the thermostat area and the drain is at the boittom of the coil that is currently freezing. also look underneith and if you see abunch of dirt then you may have to clean the coil on the bottom of the unit. use a shop vac and a long brush to clean.

HI,GOOD JOB CLEANING THE COILS IT HELPS ALOT,MOST TIMES IF YOUR FREEZER SIDE IS FREEZING UP THERE ARE 5 THINGS TO CHECK,WHAT MAKE,MOST GE HEARTERS GO BAD FIRST,EASTEST TO CHECK FIRST IS THE FAN,OPEN FREEZER DOOR,IS THE FAN RUNNING,SOME MODELS YOU WILL HAVE TO HOLD THE FREEZER BUTTON DOWN FIRST,MOST ON INSIDE TOP,NEXT REMOVE FREEZER BACK PANEL WALL,IF YOU SEE A SHEET OF ICE,YOUR DEFROST HEATER(ON BOTTOM OR SIDE) AND THE HEATER TERMANATOR(LITTLE ROUND CLIP ON BALL WILL HAVE TO BE CHECKED WITH A OMES METER,YOU CAN DEFROST IT WITH A HAIR DRYER,WHEN DEFROSTED YOU CAN SEE IF THE DRAIN(MIDDLE BOTTOM OF FREEZER IS CLOGGED,LAST DEFROST TIMER(TOP FRONT,BACK BOTTOM,INSIDE FRIG.TURN CLOCKWISE SLOW TILL YOU HEAR A CLICK,SEE IF FREEZER FAN WENT OFF,WAIT 25 MINUTES,SEE IF FAN COMES BACK ON IF SO IT'S NOT THE TIMER,LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU FIND AND I WILL HELP YOU FARTHER-MIKE

Freezer on the bottom model # PBF2555HEW Freezer works refrigerator not cooling at all

We let the fridge thaw for two days, cleaned it from top to bottom especially the coils and underneath. We moved it outside and used an air compressor to blow out the dust and dirt around the coils so nothing was damaged in the process. It works like a charm and probably more efficiently too. Before it had quit working it was freezing in the refrigerator part. So that was an indicator something was clogged. Moisture that collects and freezes blocks the air from circulating. The freezer worked great! But ice cream was too hard.  Now it's just right.
