Question about Dell Latitude D505 Notebook
Have you tried removing your battery first then, try to plug your power adapter again without the battery? if your laptop will power on, then maybe your battery is defective. let me know if this works.

Sounds like you may have fried your dell latitude. I have seen many laptop's fry and it is nothing you did, but they just go sometimes.
Take the battery out of the laptop.
Plug the charger in.
Hold the power button for a minimum 10 secs (which will reset the power options)
If there are still no lights than it is your cpu
If the computer turns on then you have a bad battery.
When batteries are bad or dead, the computer tries to run off of the battery befor the charger, it switches over to the charger after your OS has booted. In that case you can just order a new one no big deal, but if your cpu is fried then there is no hope for the laptop. :( I have lost four laptops because of this, so for your sake I hope its the battery or the GND Drain.
Also possible that the GND's drain on your board is too short and Gate 4 is driving low. To fix this you have to remove a SMT ceramic cap, which is located opposite side to the power connector, almost under it. I would guess at 1206 or slightly larger and there is an 0402 cap just next to its bottom pad at 90 degrees to it. A couple of Dell Latitude d505 have had this problem and can easily be fixed, but must be cautious and know what you are doing. I would advise seeing a professional.
Please don't forget to rate :), Thanks!
