    Woodchuck 789: I loosened the fan in the back of freezer. It does not run when the light is off or on. How can I tell if that is the problem or the control board?

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge.The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it'll be the control.

    If you suspect the fan in the freezer is the problem- The fan should spin freely when you turn it with your hand. With the door switch in and the compressor running unplug the fan and check the connections for voltage with a volt meter.You can also Test the fan for continuity
    using a multitester.
    Set the multitester to the ohms setting X1. Place a probe
    on each terminal. The multitester should display a reading
    of zero ohms. If the fan does not pass this test, it should
    be replaced.
    If you have no voltage then the control board is the problem. If you have voltage then the fan is the problem.

Ice Box wont stay running

Hello Jeff;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

Ice Box? You must not be from the Glen Burnie, Maryland USA area.

Ice boxes or ice maker have several controlling factors. Some are repairable. Here is how they work:

1.) Your ice maker will harvest ice cubes 8 to 10 times within 24 hours.
2.) You have a control module in the front of your ice maker. This is like a small control board. It has a motor and plastic gearing system. It also control the lever system to fill your ice bucket.
3.) The control module tells the solenoid valve in the lower back right hand side of your unit to open and fill the ice cube tray.
Then you have a temperature sensor that tells the control the ice cubes are frozen.
4.) You either have a flex ice cube mold that will activate or a heater under the mold tat will turn on for a set period of time to release the ice cubes from the mold.

Send me the model number of your unit and then we can trouble shoot together.

What causes the refrigerator temp to not stay cold?

I ran into a similar problem where the cooling unit had iced up and apparently was fooling the sensor that the temp was lower than desired. The ice had built up so much that the fan was slapping it making a propeller noise. I defrosted the machine by switching it off, unloading it completely and putting several pans of hot water inside the fridge with the door closed. After 4-5 hours, I was able to get the cover off the cooling unit and carefully break away the remaining ice. This fixed the problem for 2-3 months. After the 3rd time of doing this, I followed a tip I got from a youtube video as a workaround. I attached a piece of bare gardening wire around the heating element and routed the other end up to where the ice was forming. This transfers a small amount of heat directly to the problem area during the defrost cycle and I haven't had any trouble from it for more than a year.

This video discusses a proper fix for the same problem plus other issues that might need checking. Of course, these may not apply to your model. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_kbnddADDU

Frigidaire Gallery Model GS26HSZBB2 ice maker doesn't fill up

Hello.

It is time to replace your icemaker. The best place I have found to get them is at Lowes. They are above 100 dollars everywhere else but they are 49.99 at Lowes. The part number is IM115. Just let the guy in appliances know you need an icemaker for a Frigidaire unit.

Ice Maker Has Stopped Making Ice

Hi: I didn't see the simple first solution to try in your list. The ice maker is thermally protected. It won't make ice until the freezer is at 0degrees F. Set your freezer lower in temperature. It may seem cold to you but it has to be at 0degreesF. Frozen at 32 degrees wont cut it. Please don't open the door every 5 minutes to see if it's made ice, as it will raise the temperature. It appears in your question that you listen for the ice to drop. That's the right way. Give it a day to drop in temp. before resetting the temp. This is a free try before you have to call a technician. I hope this helps, Jeff

try forcing the cycle by manually triggering the cycle a few times. Sometimes you can detach the trip arm or turn the tray by hand by disconnecting it from the gear. There may have been a switch bumped to turn it off or the switch somehow jammed. Maybe check for freeze-up. If there is water in it, it's going somewhere.

Ice maker on G E refrigator

If you have low water pressure to the ice maker it can cause the unit to stick. If the water fill is ok then the ice maker is going out or the freezer is not staying cold enough. Icemaker has to reach about 12 degrees to cycle.
