Easily fixed, make sure that the top speaker grille/power switch cover is removed (open the laptop screen fully and it should unsnap easily). then there's 2 screws underneath which say KBD, unscrew those, and the keyboard comes away fairly easily (try to work it from the bottom left and gently pry it away from the main body)

A new keyboard should set you back around £60.

Why doesn't it boot?

If you have a computer is running windows Vista this means its quite old.
It wouldn't be unreasonable to guess that it could have developed a hardware fault, such as a Hard Drive issue?

The Five ways to make your keyboard easier to use

5 ways to make your keyboard
easier to use For most people, the keyboard is the main way to enter information into and control their computer. But are you controlling your keyboard, or is your keyboard controlling you?
If you make typing mistakes or find your keyboard a bit uncomfortable, it’s not hard to correct those problems. Here’s how to quickly and easily change your keyboard settings and comfort options.
1. Get to know your keyboardEven if you’ve been using a PC for a long time, there may be features on your keyboard you don’t know about. Take a moment to get to know your keyboard so you can be more efficient when you're working.
2. Change keyboard settingsOnce you’ve gotten more familiar with your keyboard, there are a few settings you can change to help you work more smoothly.
You can alter:
  • How long you need to press a key before the keyboard character starts repeating.
  • The speed at which keyboard characters repeat, which helps you to avoid typing errors.
  • The rate at which the mouse pointer blinks, which can help its visibility.
Here's how to change keyboard settings in Windows Vista or in Windows XP .
3. Take shortcuts Even if you're a whiz with the mouse for Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP, keyboard shortcuts are typically a more efficient way to work. They're called shortcuts because they reduce multiple clicks into one quick press of keys, like hitting a chord on a piano.
Getting to know a few keyboard shortcuts for the things you do all the time, like saving or closing files, can make using your PC much easier and faster.
Here are just a few popular keyboard shortcuts that work for both versions of Windows:
Press this
To do this
Windows logo keykey_win_logo.png Open the Start menu
ALT+TAB
Switch between open programs or windows
CTRL+S
Save the current file or document (works in most programs)
CTRL+C
Copy the selected item
CTRL+Z
Undo an action
Windows logo key key_win_logo.png +F1
Display Windows Help and Support
ESC
Cancel the current task
Application key key_application.png Open a menu of commands related to a selection in a program. Equivalent to right-clicking the selection.
For more, see the detailed list of keyboard shortcuts for Windows Vista, or Windows XP. Note: shortcuts for Windows 7 are the same as those listed for Windows Vista.
4. Make it easier to press multiple keysDo you find it difficult to press multiple keys at once? For example, if pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL is an acrobatic feat, you can set up Sticky Keys. With Sticky Keys you can hit one key at a time in a keyboard shortcut. You can even set it to make a noise so you know it's working.
together.gifYou can set up Sticky Keys in Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP. (Hint: Press your “SHIFT” key 5 times in a row, then click on the link, to get going with Sticky Keys in Windows 7 or Windows Vista.)
5. Find a comfortable keyboardIt might also be time for you to evaluate the ergonomics of your desktop. Microsoft offers a full line of Natural and Comfort Curve ergonomic keyboards to ensure you're comfortable when you're working on your computer. Having the right keyboard can really make a difference!
Tips for using your keyboard properly
If a new keyboard isn’t in your future, be sure to use your current keyboard properly to avoid soreness or injury to your wrists, hands, and arms. This is particularly important if you use your computer for long periods of time.

Here are some general tips to help you avoid problems:
  • Place your keyboard at elbow level, with your upper arms relaxed at your sides.
  • Center your keyboard in front of you. If your keyboard has a numeric keypad, you can use the spacebar as the centering point.
  • While typing, use a light touch and keep your wrists straight.
  • When you're not typing, relax your arms and hands.
  • Take short breaks every 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Type with your hands and wrists floating above the keyboard, so that you can use your whole arm to reach for distant keys instead of stretching your fingers.
  • Avoid resting your palms or wrists on any type of surface while typing. If your keyboard has a palm rest, use it only during breaks from typing.

I am looking to set up an old computer with new memory and hard drive. I have windows vista from my laptop computer can I install this into my newly updated computer and how.

Generally, the licensed software for your laptop is tied to that machine/brand. If you bought a copy of vista and installed it on the laptop, you may be able to install vista on three machines if that is the version you bought.
Most Microsoft programs are locked to one machine and won't activate on another system.
Now, if this is an old, slow (less than 1 Ghz) with less than 2 gigs, it probably will run Vista very slowly if you get it installed. I'd use the OS that was on the old machine instead of trying to install Vista.

I've got a mobile computer samsung r510 and was provided with vista. I changed for XP and now the FN key in blue don't work anymore ! please help

Function keys on notebooks require drivers during the installation it should have seen that it was a notebook and installed the correct "keyboard driver" I suspect that it may have not. You will need to go into your settings under hardware and see what type of keyboard is installed that will solve your issue.

I ve just bought lexmark z2300 printer, how do i connect it to my laptop which is on wireless broadband with perlico? ta caroline.

You need to connect the printer with an extra cable which can join it through its 25 pin parallel cable. That cable then with USB end connect with the Laptop. and its drivers can be automatically detect by your Vista system.
For Vista 64-bit, the driver for printer and cable should be digitally signed.
Otherwise you need this method for Driver Installation in Windows Vista 64-bit:
The 64-bit version of Windows Vista is the first version of Windows that will only allow signed drivers and this restriction is built-in. For most cable drivers are unsigned and we request you to follow some prerequisites before installing the driver.
Preparing Vista 64-bit for Driver installation:
  • Using the F8 option: Press F8 key on your keyboard while booting your PC. You will get into “Advanced Boot Options”. Select “Disable Driver Signature Enforcement”
  • An F8 Advanced Boot Option introduced with Windows Vista—“Disable Driver Signature Enforcement”—is available to disable the kernel-signing enforcement only for the current boot session. This setting does not persist across boot sessions.
  • Note: Make sure to use F8 option every time you boot/reboot your PC before start working with MCS77XX.
  • Make sure that the User installing the driver must be a member of the Administrator group on the system.
And for printer driver if you dont have CD then go through this link and follow the steps:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r1133275-drivers_installation_problem

Let me know if you need furhter assistance, I will help you to run your Printer with Laptop.

Ellin

Just need to remove the two screws on the rear marked KBD then turn the computer over and unclip the 7 tabs around the keyboard - 3 at the front and 2 either side, then carefully pull the keyboard up and towards you to release it at the back.
