Unable to change resolution to 1280 X 1024

The maximum-resolution supported by some video-cards can be less than 1280*1024.
You need to install a "better" video-card into your computer.

How do you take off the mounting on a HP L1706 monitor? They are three screws took two off but the third behind the mount is the problem... Does it come apart or has anybody been successful taking it off?

Insert a small flat tip screwdriver about two inches from the top section of the mount. About an inch from either side is the clips holding it into place, be careful not to break the two in the back. If you lean it back toward the monitor as the front clips are loosened, it should just pop out.

Need to change resolution but cannot get onto desktop to do so as the monitor just goes to sleep

plug it into your laptop and change the settings to the monitor to 800 by 600 pixels, then change the refresh rate to 60 hz or you could change it to 1280 by 1024 pixels and 60hz but it should work with 800 by 600 too, then plug it back into your desktop it should work then
