SOURCE: battery pack

I don't know if this will work but it worked for my PowerShot A300.

Take a pencil eraser and clean the battery connections inside your camera. Just be sure not to let any eraser flakes inside the camera.

The Canon rep indicated it would work for the A300 ... Not sure why it wouldn't work with yours as well.

Good luck.

SOURCE: Canon IXUS 100is battery pack problem.

Your battery pack is made up of cells.
If one of the cells is bad or low, then the camera will work - but the battery level sensor KNOWS that the voltage level is low.
It will work for some time... then finally fail. A nut (like me) would take the pack apart and zap the bad cell by discharging a large capacitor across the weak cell. I have added a year or more to a battery pack by doing that.

Have a look at CNET.COM
I have the same camera and the same fault. CNET are suggesting Canon should recall the camera because of this fault. I did see elsewhere on the net that it was a battery contact problem and a home-made modification could fix it. The camera takes great pictures but I can only use it if I have a batch of fully charged cells with me, and keep changing them. If I go out I take my Olympus or Fuji with me.

I have the same problem and I'm not sure why it does this. I think it has something to do with the connection inside the camera.

11 miles on full charged new batteries, this is approximately as condition change max distance, like you weight, if you are going uphill, how even the ground is etc. if you need more you could get a spare battery pack for it, and swap them over when needed. but remember to keep them charged even when not in use once a week is the best way to keep them in good shape.

Does the battery pack work? Leaving it on the charger for 24 hours shouldn't hurt the pack (too much) since the charger shuts off when the pack is fully charged. The most likely result would be a slight reduction in the capacity, but it should still work.

You shouldn't need to order another battery pack unless it no longer works.

My battery charges but only lasts about 20 minutes once it says it is fully charged. Just purchsed a new battery thinking it was old (laptop is about 3 years old) and the same thing happens.

From what you describe and assuming the new battery was "new", I'd say you have an internal short which is draining the battery over a short period of time. I'd also investigate the accuracy of the battery charge indicator. Download this free utility which will give you a more accurate picture of your battery:
http://www.mioplanet.com/products/batterymeter/

I'm assuming you gave the battery a "commissioning charge" when you bought and used it?
If not, this is something you should do with all new LI batteries. This bit is reproduced from a website that sells batteries for the Toshiba satellite series:

"2. The new Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery pack needs to be circled (fully discharged and recharged) three to five times to reach its optimum performance.
3. Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery will undergo self-discharging when left unused for a long period of time. Thus, it should always be stored in a fully charged state and kept in a cool, dry and clean place.
4. It is normal if the new Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery gets warm when being charged or used. However, please pay special attention if the battery pack becomes excessively hot. This may indicate there is a problem with the charging circuit of the electronic device. Please consult a qualified technician if necessary.
5. To maintain the optimum performance of Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery pack, it is highly recommended to circle (fully discharging and recharging) it at least once a month.
6. New batteries are hard to be charged. Sometimes, your electronic device may indicate a fully charged condition about 10 to 15 minutes when Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery pack is being charged for the first time. When this happens, remove the battery pack and let it cool down for about 10 to 15 minutes then repeat the charging procedure. Sometimes, the new Satellite a205-s4777 battery will suddenly refuse to be charged. If this happens, a suggested solution is trying to remove the battery from the device and insert it again. "

How do you tell when the battery is fully charged. It continues to show that it is still charging when it would have to be fully charged. The battery is a 3.8V which isn't mentioned on the charger...

The light usually changes colors or goes from flashing to solid even from a light being on it going off when charged. Every camera is different. Normally a good hour will fully charge most camera batteries.

My father-in-laws gogo will be not used for several months while he's in florida. how should the battery be stored/charged while not in use?

Charge the batteries fully and remove the battery pack from the scooter. About once a month charge the battery pack. It shouldn't take long to charge since you are not using the scooter Don't overcharge when the light on the charger turns green turn it off and unplug it from the battery pack. This should keep the batteries fully charged and fresh when FIL gets back home. Hope this helps you

Where to check for the abttery display option

When the battery is low or insufficient the message " Change the battery pack" displays.
You can then insert a fully charged battery into the camera or use the AC adapter Kit to charge the battery.
On long trips, it is recommended to keep an additional fully chaged battery along with you so that you are not caught without any charge!!

Battery charger just flashes to say the battery has to cool down but will not start charging.tried another charger same thing happens but does not show that the batteries are faulty!

Unfortunately, Makita’s li-ion battery packs have a design flaw. After having the same problem with my two batteries, I took it apart and saw the problem immediately. You see each battery pack has ten li-ion battery cells and a circuit board with a memory chip witch holds the charging history of the battery pack. But that memory chip constantly draws power from 2 of the 10 batteries. The current it draws is very small but if you consider it over 6 month or more, the power drain becomes very significant. You end up with a battery pack with 8 still fully charged battery cells and 2 drained battery cells. When you put this battery pack in the charger, it detects weak battery cells, assumes they are defective and refuses to charge. To avoid this problem you should charge your battery pack often, even if you haven't used it, every two months should be ok.
I suspect that Makita doesn’t make these battery packs, they make power tools, good ones too. But Makita should definitely have a few words with their supplier before they become a liability!
