You have an electrical short, it some time forms at the heat strip after years of use the small wires break and cause a short. You need to replace the heat strip, and or it might be a bad breaker. There is really need no other reason for the short.

You need to check the current rating of your heat strips. If it is more than 60 amps then you need a bigger breaker. If 60 amps or less then your heat strips are going bad. Also make sure your fan turns smoothly without any wobble.

Tempstar 2400 blows the a/c breaker when heat is on

How long before the breaker trips?,does the a/c work ok,gas heat or heat pump?,electric strip heat on auxiliary heat,if these are shorted they will trip a breaker,if the breaker trips instantly you have a dead short in the system,if it runs for a while it may be a weak breaker, you may have a bad compressor if it trips fast or a shorted out heat strip, need more info!

Hi, sounds like you could have a couple of problems. If the breaker is tripping when the strips are calling, they are drawing more amps then they should. The data plate on the unit will tell you the Amperage rating of the heat strip package that is installed and should match that of the breaker. Since the breaker was replaced I would recheck how tight the wiring is at the breaker as they will lossen up do the the heat they are pulling. Make sure they are tight both at the breaker and at the strips, just turn the breaker off and check this. Also, the strips should energize when the thermostat needs them to help out the heating cycle. It is good you can manually turn them on, but you shouldn't have to. I can not guide you through the process of checking T-stat operation as I would need to be on site to see how they wired it at the unit and stat.If it has always worked this way then this is most likely the way the installer wired it. If not, you will need to have the stat checked out. I would consentrate on solving the breaker problem. Just look at the data plate for the strips amperage and see if it matches the breaker amps. Tighten these connections and I bet this will solve the big problem. If you had a clamp around amp probe and with some help from me I could guide you on how to do an amp check to see if its the strips, wiring, or breaker by doing a amperage check. Tighten up all the connections and keep me posted for more help. I will be here to help you solve this.

Every time my heat pump turns on, the blue auxilliary light comes on, and it only blows icy air. I do not want to use that much power, so I turn it back down a few degrees. Now, it is 50 degrees in the...

A heat pump starts losing efficiency below 30F or so. The aux. heat helps the heat pump keep up with heat demand. The Aux heat can be electric heat strips or another type of heat. Check to make sure you have power to whatever type of aux heat you have (breaker not tripped, no overloads tripped). If it is electric heat check the heat strips to make sure they haven't burnt in to. Hope this helps.

My electric furnace keeps tripping the breaker , it will run for about five or ten minutes then trips.

If you dont have an ampmeter it is hard to tell whats going on. First check the breaker and see if it is getting hot. If so turn off power get a screwdriver and check to see if wire are tight on the breaker. Loose wires cause breakers to trip. If the unit has ran before and it has not tripped the breaker and it hss just now atarted replace breaker but do not put a larger one in. Check the size of your heat strip in Kw or what they call for on the size of the breaker. 10 kw no larger that 60 5kw no larger than 30. 15 kw has a 60 amp and a 30 amo circuit. Let me know whats going on.Rus

My electric trips out when I switch the tumble dryer on

Sounds like the plug cord is wired wrong on the dryer, or the breaker is too small or going out. Or the heat strip could need to be replaced. You should have a 30 amp breaker for the dryer. Check the heat strip then your breaker.

I seem to have the same problem. But when I reset the breakers, they won't stay in the on position. They go back to the off position. What gives? It is 95F inside the house.
