Shipping bolts for Maytag Neptune

Where can I get the bolts to secure the drum for shipping? We're moving from one house to another. The installer did not leave the bolts after installation. Maytag Neptune - Where can we get the shipping bolts? OR What size are they so we can go buy them,...! Need them SOON.

There are 4 videos for the LITKIT on YouTube, this is the link for the LG.

The LG video is the same type of install as the Maytag.

This model has shipping straps that are cut and removed from the machine during the first installation. I tied down the drum inside the machine (through the rear opening) using regular ratchet type tie downs and stuffed the front of the drum to prevent extreme back and forth motion.

I hope it works.

Unless your driving off of sidewalks you don't need to put them back in.

Maytag neptune washer Model #MAH5500B Serial #7390674ZQ Need instructions on how to attach shipping bolt for moving out of state

The installation instructions are here:
http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/owner_manuals/15271/MAYTAG-Residential-Washers-L0503006

The used plastic shupping straps to hold the tub in place for shipping.... not bolts. Once removed without tearing the machine apart you can not re-install them. You can safely move this machine as long as you do not tip it excessively or drop it even a few inches. Just treat it very gingerly or post move you could have have an imbalance problem post move where the machine starts to spin then reverses direction several times but never comes up to full spin speed. Leave all the hoses connected to the washer and disconnect it from the wall only. Make sure you do NOT ship the machine loaded with anything inside. People often think an empty washer is unsed space..... wrong answer on a front loading machine. If your horribly concerned about the tub moving make a padded wooden block jig that has a rear pad that touches the back of the tub at the bottom and 3 pads that are flush when the door is closed. As a servicer I made my own long ago but rarely use if ever it.

May your move go well and thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly.

We are moving our washer to another state. How do I drain the water? Are there any specific instructions in moving and storing it?

Yes, buy shipping bolts and have them installed to secure the outer drum. This is very important. Do not let it freeze. If it will be in freezing temperatures call a local repairman and have him get rid of any standing water in the outer tub and internal valves. Hope this helps,

Moving soon do u need to reinstall shipping bolts to move it

It's not 100% necessary, but if you still have them it would be a great idea for shipping

Does a Maytag Neptune MAH6500WH have retaining bolts or pins that need to be installed before it can be moved?

If you are moving the washer for a long distance move, it is recommended that the shipping bolts be reinstalled to help prevent damage to the drum and suspension mechanism. This would be especially important if you're using a professional moving company, as they won't be able to move/load/unload it without problems.

If the move is relatively short and won't experience alot of aggressive movement, you can likely move the washer without chance of damage - provided you are careful and don't bounce the washer around.

Here's the info from the Maytag website, regarding moving front loading appliances:

If you are moving to a new home and plan to take your front-load washer and dryer pair with you, please call 800-688-9900, and speak to a fabric care expert. Our expert can recommend a Maytag-authorized servicer who will reinstall new shipping bolts to your washer.

New shipping bolts must be reinstalled to avoid internal suspension and structural damage to your washer during transport.

OK, so get your model number handy and give them a call, (you're missing some digits/alphas) you can get an online copy of your owner's manual that will show you the part numbers for the shipping bolts, if you've misplaced them, or give a call to the toll free number for Maytag, and they'll provide you with the part numbers needed so you can order them yourself and likely save some money versus having a service tech some out and do it for you/

Shipping bolt installation

A total of four shipping bolts need to be installed: two longer ones on the bottom and two shorter ones on the top. Each shipping bolt consists of a metal screw inside a plastic cylinder which fits between the washer suspension and the back of the washer cabinet. The metal screw pulls the washer suspension against the plastic cylinder which, in turn, is pulled against the rear cabinet, thereby securing the suspension against the back of the cabinet. The Whirlpool part number is 285955. These bolts can be ordered from various suppliers for $20 - $30. To install these bolts, you will need a 13 mm wrench and a flashlight so you can see where the bolts screw into on the washer suspension.

The procedure is as follows:
1. On the back of the washer, remove the 4 plastic covers over the oblong shipping bolt holes. Carefully pack these covers with the water and drain hoses as they will be needed when the washer is re-installed in its new location.
2. Using the flashlight as a visual aid, look inside the oblong holes and identify the area on the washer suspension into which the shipping bolts screw. It is a white plastic part that is not directly behind the the shipping bolt holes, but is slightly above that level.
3.Look at the shipping bolts. The bolts described above (Part number 285955) have a a plastic arm at one end . This arm must be sawed-off for installation on older machines. You will have to determine whether or not the arm needs to be removed.
4. Starting with the bottom two holes, carefully slide a shipping bolt through the hole toward the front of the machine. Angle the bolt upward toward the screw mating hole, and carefully guide the bolt into the hole. Use the 13 mm wrench to engage the bolt into the mating hole.
5. Make sure that the plastic end of the bolt is closely seated against the back of the washer cabinet. Using the 13 mm wrench, screw in the lower two bolts, but do not tighten at this time.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for the upper two shipping bolts.
7. After the plastic part of all 4 bolts has been firmly seated against the back of the washer cabinet, carefully tighten all 4 bolts.
8. Go to the front of the washer and push on the drum. The drum will rotate but it should not rock. If that is the case, then you are done.
