This is a networked printer, does the printer need uninstalling on the network and re install?

  • joannehawxwe Oct 07, 2010

The HP4550N LCD is white and all three lights are lit, they are not flashing, they are just lit. We have disconnected the power source and reconnected and the printer is still the same. The printer is network connected. Thanks Jo

HI, we have added new RAM and this has made no difference to the problem with the machine. LCD still white and all three lights lit, are you able to offer further advice? Joanne

This problem is as a result in the unit RAM crashing. The RAM is the device power house and without this the device can hardly function no matter how long you put it off it still wont be able to process anything. The only solution to this is to get an expert to replace the RAM for you if you cant do it.
First you will have to order a replacement for the RAM and then then get it replaced.
Hope this solution has been helpful?

Usually after replacing the RAM you are suppose to do like an installation of the units firmware. I recommend you get an expert to help out with this. If this does not work then it would be better for you to refer the unit to the HP center as i am out of diagnosis.
    Hope this solution is helpful?

Joanne, Please follow the link below to first uninstall and then reinstall the printer. Remember that reboot in between is as important as the installation. In the mean while let me look for some more info on the problem.

I suppose no. But did you unplug the printer from the power source. I just read in the online manual that if all lights are flashing then it should also be unplugged besides being powered off. Try that now.

Given below is a copy of the page on All Lights Flashing:

printer lights are flashing or on
printer lights are flashing or on
    l what the lights indicate
l Print Cartridge Status light is on
l Print Cartridge Status light is flashing
    l Resume light is flashing
    l Power light is flashing

    what the lights indicate
Flashing or on lights indicate the printer status.
    1. Print Cartridge Status light 2. Resume light 3. Power light

the printer may be out of paper
    1. Place paper in the In tray.
    2. Press the Resume button on the front of the printer.
there may be a paper jam
Follow these instructions to clear a paper jam.
the printer may be ready to print the second side of a two-sided document

Hp 5550n show "card slot

I'll assume it's a media card slot-if so try putting a small amount of either denatured rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer on the media cards contacts itself-this may momentarily allow the card to be read. The purpose of this is it will tell you that the contacts inside have somehow become slightly contaminated with something and needs to be cleaned. hope this was helpful Prodzilla

How do I set my 5550n printer to print only black and white copies and color on demand?

If you go into control panel then go printer options you should see your printer icon. Right click on it and go printer preferences or printer properties and I think there is a colour tab where you can set it to just back and white

I have a 2 yr. old C6180. It will not turn on as of yesterday. Power is coming from the socket as the little green lights on the plug are lighted. I have unplugged all cords and plugged them back in but...

try unplugging power cord and holding #6while your plugginmg in the power cord hold the button down until you see the display lights turning on and release if you are printing wirelessly you will have to do the wireless setup wizard again.
if that doesn't work try plugging it directly to the wall
if all else fails it may be the printer

HI

i have a sure shot resolution for this which worked John Oneill who had the similar problem ,

try this out
The best way to deal with this issue is making sure that the printer isn't plugged to a surge protector
and performing a partial reset
youcan achieve this by unplugging the power cable and pressing # and 3 andthen replugging the cable and hold the # and 3 buttons until you seethe lcd lit up
also try the # and 6 and then # and 9 to reset it to factory defaults if the previous doesnt work

No display in control panel

Had this problem after a power hiccup. The firmware on my HP 5550 / 5550n has been a problem in the past, needing updating or currupting, but this time I was getting the power on, a backllit control panel but no menus or text, and steady on READY, DATA and ATTENTION lights. At any rate I saw a solution on the Internet and owe that poster a beer if I can ever find him.

All things led to a corrupt Firmware. Problem and most beleieve you have to send for a new Firmware FlashCard and that takes time and big $$$. I found that if you can find another working 5550 / 5550n you can pop it's firmware FlashCard, make an image of it, and restore your own firmware to a working state.

The 5550 /5550n printers firmware resides on a 32MB Compact FlashCard on the printers Formatter Board. (The formatter board is held into the printer by 8 screws, and also has the JetDirect card on it.). This Firmware FlashCard when removed, will fit in a standard Compact FlashCard reader, and can then be attached to any Windows Machine for manipulation.

NOTE that this Compact FlashCard containing the printers firmware involves a proprietary HP created partition that a Windows PC cannot even read. Thus when connected to a Windows PC you'll see nothing, and may well be challenged to format the card!!! --- Obviously... DON'T DO IT !!

There is a FREE program called SelfImage available. Just Google: download SelfImage. The pesent version of SelfImage as of this writing is v1.2.1. It can and will see the contents of the FlashCard, and thus can make an image file of the FlashCard for use down the road. Should the firmware on the CompactFlash Card ever get corrupted, you can restore it from any image file by simply using the SelfImage program in reverse.

I made two image files of a good firmware flashcard from a working 5550 / 5550n because when you choose to make the backup image in this SelfImage program, you can do either the entire physical drive, or just a selected partition of a physical drive. In the case of this printer's firmware FlashCard, the drive and partition appear to be one in the same, as will be evidenced by the exact same file size of the resulting images. I made copies both ways (drive and partition) just be sure all possibilities were covered.

I now make copies of that Firmware everytime it's upgraded.
