SOURCE: The fan motor for the refrigerator is not working.

You've identified the problem, now check if your model is listed on SearsDirect with an illustrated breakdown:
Sear parts
They have many thousands of appliances listed in their library besides Kenmore and Sears.
If present, you can determine if you want to DIY or hire a service company to do the work. You can order the part through Sears if model is listed or if you have a Johnstone Supply in your area, they will have a compatible (or original, if you want another crappy fan motor) for fewer dollars.
I'm starting to really hate Whirlpool.

Kenmore refrigerator 253.7031 touch panel reads freezer temperature 5Y refrigerator temperature EF. What does it mean. refrigerator is getting very warm 71 Fahrenheit

The EF SY code indicates the evaporator fan circuit has failed or the sensor isn't registering cold air flow. Since the fridge is warm, the fan isn't running. You'll need to check the fan motor and the control board wiring. Unplug the refrigerator before checking the wiring. (You'll need a multimeter to check for continuity/voltages/resistance in those wires. You can use a 9V battery to check if the fan works. It's a DC motor; connect the red and yellow wires to the positive terminal of the battery. Connect the brown wire (on some models) to the negative terminal. Check the wiring harness for corrosion as well. The fan is at the back of the refrigerator. The control board is on the bottom, behind the toe kick plate.

If the fan motor is good, then the control board is bad. The fan motor is part 60 here: . The control board is part 50 on the same page. It may be better to replace both parts at once.

You should also check if the fan has been freezing up. If the refrigerant system is leaking, ice build up on the fan can stop it from spinning. This will cause the fan motor to fail but the replacement part will fail again if the ice build up problem isn't solved first.

I hope this helps.

Working but extremely noisy freezer

most likely noise is coming from evaporator fan motor.go here,it will show you the parts in your model,
unplug the freezer, remove shelves and remove back inside wall to get at the fan might see yellow stains around motor area, that's from the oil that leaked out of fan motor, also if noise stops and you notice that the freezer is cold on bottom and warm on top the fan motor died and needs to be replaced right away.hope this helps and you should change the motor out before you loose any food.

Yes, if your evap is fully frosted, and the fan is not working. The frosted evap will keep it cold but since the fan cant move the cold air from the evap it'll be cold, but not as cold as you'd like.

Amana refrigerator SQD23VW

If the freezer is not freezing. I am guessing that the refrigerator is not cold also. Here is link to an Amana Refrigerator Not Freezing. You will need to narrow down parts that are working and are not working. I would first pull the refrigerator out to make sure that the compressor and the condenser fan are running(the condencer fan motor runs to cool the compressor down). This is a link to a GE refrigerator condenser fan motor problem. The compressor and condenser fan motor are in the same place. This can give an idea at least where it is at. Make sure that the evaporator fan motor in the freezer is running also. Make sure that the rear freezer wall is not iced over. This can be a defrost problem. See what a defrost problem is HERE. If your unit is sitting there with the lights on but you hear no noise from any fan motor or your compressor. Your unit may be in a defrost mode. Locate your defrost timer. It looks as tho it is either located in the front behind the kick plate or in the back by the compressor. Here is a link to your units diagrams or . Hope this helps a little. Hello, I have a Kenmore refrigerator model 795.73264300 and I've been told by a service tech that I need a freezer fan motor replaced along with the ice maker. Total cost is about $400. I've been on...

Go here:

It's the Sears Parts site for that model refridgerator.

They list the fan for $8.10 and you can replace the whole ice maker for about $120

Looks like you take the shelves out and then the bulb, then the top panel in the back of the freezer to acces the fan

Good luck

I have a kenmore model # 59675522400 The fridge is

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. You have most likely found the problem being the evaporator fan is turning slowly. Most of the time if there is a voltage problem with and evaporator fan they just do not turn at all. I suspect that the fan bearings are dry and the armature is not turing full speed.

Sometimes you can lubricate the motor with a parrifin based oil and revive them. Most of the time on the white motors lubrication does not work as you can only lubricate one of 2 bearings due to the motor design.

Your evaporator fan motor is here: Detailed view

Component location view: (item 18)

All other parts:

The Evvaporator fan motor voltage should be 120 VAC across the 2 fan motor wires.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
