Your touchpad probaly has a driver. Mine is Synaptic. It has its own configuration. If it is installed, there should be a program on your PC. Search for it, and configure it. On my Windows laptop it was on the Start menu, under All Programs.

Gateway the touch pad not function why?

Adjusting the touchpad sensitivity on a Gateway laptop lets you fix and prevent annoying touchpad problems.
Often the touchpad is accidentally brushed while typing, which causes the cursor to move out of place.
Or you may find yourself having to tap too hard or too often on the touchpad to open windows and programs.
These problems can be fixed by simply adjusting the touchpad's sensitivity settings.
Click the "Start" button and double-click "Control Panel."
Double-click "Hardware & Sound" and choose "Mouse" to open the mouse properties box.

Choose the "Device Settings" tab. Highlight "Synaptic Touchpad" in the Devices box by clicking on it. Click the "Settings" button underneath the Devices box.
Choose "Sensitivity" in the properties settings box.
Click "PalmCheck" to adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad to accidental brushes against the pad while typing, which causes the cursor to move.
Click and hold the pointer to adjust the setting on the sensitivity scale.

Click "Touch Sensitivity" to adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad to tapping.
Click and hold the pointer to adjust the setting on the sensitivity scale.
A higher rating on the scale means less tapping pressure will be needed.

Click "OK" to save your touchpad settings.

How can deactivate the pad?i dont want to click with a double touch...thanks

To turn the TouchPad on/off, quickly double-tap the TouchPad off indicator (the yellow LED) at the left top corner. If the touchpad is disabled it is indicated by a yellow LED on upper left corner of the touchpad and when the TouchPad is active, the light is off.
This would disable the touchpad completely. Also, if you wish to disable just the double-click through double-tap, you can do this by going to the mouse/touchpad options from the control panel.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

The cursor jumps all over the place when I am typing. I know I am not hitting the touchpad and the thing jumped three times while typing this short note.

Hi,

Welcome to FixYa! This is about the configuration of your touchpad. You will need to configure it so that once you are typing, tapping will automatically be disabled. You can also try to download a third party software that will freeze the touchpad while you are typing. For you to be able to download the software, click on this link. Just run the program and follow the instructions to download. For you to be able to manually configure the mouse option, follow the steps below:

1. Click Start.

2. Go to Control Panel.

3. Under the Control Panel, Double Click on Mouse

4. Go to the Tapping tab.

5. Put a check mark on Disabled tapping while typing.

Hope this information will help. Thank you for using FixYa!

On the bottom bar by the clock, if your computer is newer there should be a small icon that controls your mouse. Simply right click on it and check the box "tap to click" or similar. Hope this helps!

I've had the acer one for 2 weeks. While using it today, the single and double click functions of the touchpad stopped working. The touchpad still moves the arrow around the screen and the left and right...

Hello cskpuels,

It sounds like the touchpad is working ok but probably needs some setting(s) adjusted. The touchpad settings can be accessed through the windows control panel. But before going to the control panel it's useful to review the touchpad basics for single and double clicking. They are as follows:
•Tap once on the main touchpad for single click.
•Tap twice for double click.
•The lighter the touch, the better the response.
•Tapping harder will not increase the touchpad's responsiveness.

•Opening the Control Panel
The Windows Control Panel can be opened by:
Selecting *Start > Control Panel (on Windows Vista)
- OR -
Start > Run > Type 'Control' and select OK (on Windows XP)
*The Enter key may be used on the keyboard in place of touchpad clicking*

In the Control Panel, do the following:
•Select Mouse [Enter] (Brings up the touchpad properties sheet)
•Look at the Buttons tab in the touchpad properties sheet.
•Adjust the settings and test the touchpad until you get the response you desire.

Have a great day,

How do I disable double-click on an HP Pavilion dv4 touchpad?

Hi there Dublin. I recently bought a HP laptop myself, and I believe I can help your situation, or at least I hope I can. Here's what you do: Access your Control Panel>Click Mouse>Click Device Settings>Click Settings> Click Tapping> Click Disable Tapping. That should do the trick. You are not disabling your touch-pad, just the double-clicking that is associated with it. Drove me nuts for about a day, 'til I figured it out..Hope it worked for your notebook.

How do you change from a single to double click on the pad of my laptop so that in a moving truck I am able to control the computer

I am not sure if you're asking about how to change the settings to make a single tap on the touchpad function like double click. You can go to control panel>mice or touchpad.

If you're just asking how to do double click on the touchpad, by default, it's set to tapping the touchpad twice. You can change change the speed settings in control panel too.

Dell latitude c610 touch pad left button problem

Will your laptop work properly with an external mouse? If so, check your touchpad settings in "Control Panel" by selecting "Mouse". Here you can reassign your Buttons. Try setting your Right Button function to "Double Click". If the "Double Click" function works on your Right Button then chances are you have a problem with your Touchpad Assembly which means it will have to be replaced. Dell refers to it as a "Palmrest" which they will replace if still under warranty.

Most likely you have to double tap. Depending on the laptop make, sometimes double tapping isn't intergrated.
