Question about Whirlpool GEW9868K Electric Dryer

2 Answers

Hi, I own a Whirlpool Senseon Dryer (model GEW9868KQ0). The dryer's touch panel does not light up. The electrical power source, door switch, and thermal fuse all check out okay. I suspect a problem with either the touch panel or control board. Do you agree and, if so, how do i differentiate between the 2 issues? I can't run the service diagnostic tests because I don't get any LEDs to turn on with the test routine.

Thanks for your solution. There's no obvious damage to the control board. I haven't been able to find any directions to removing the touch panel, so I hope there's some instructions included when I order that part. The Whirlpool "Do-It-Yourself Repair Manual" seems outdated for this section. I would appreciate any information regarding the removal and inspection of the touch panel.

    Best,

    Tim.

I've gotten that far. Do they typically seal the front of the touch panel with some cement? Maybe rubber cement?

It's definitely either of the control board and the touch panel. The only possible way to tell which one is by visually inspecting them for obvious sign of damage. But in this case I go for the touch panel itself which I recommend to be replaced. Purchase the part from AP Wagner and if it happens to be not the touch panel but rather the control board, they will let you return the unnecessary part and give you the one you need.

The console is held to the top of the cabinet by two spring clips on each end. Insert a putty knife blade between the bottom of the console and the dryer top at each front corner and push the spring clip back far enough to release it from the slot in the dryer top. Lift the console up approximately one inch then tip the console back and lift it to release the mounting tab at the rear of the end cap from the slot in the dryer top.

The key switches are integral part of the console and not designed to be accessed, tested or repaired.

Why won't my Whirlpool Senseon Dryer start? The control panel will not respond. No buttoms will light up or beep. The dryer has power and the door latch works properly and the light comes on inside

Always disconnect power before attempting any service. Most electric dryers require 240 volts to operate properly.
You may have only 120 volts to supply the dryer which will give you your symptoms. Click dryer circuit breaker off then back on to reset 240 volt system.Still no heat/run

Whirlpool Senseon dryer control panel won't work

Could you please explain the problem in depth for me? Not sure what you mean by the control panel not working. Is it getting power? Do you have lights on inside the dryer (if it is equipped with it)?

Why is my gew9868kq0 not starting?

HI, check the following to address this issue.

1. No power to the dryer
Make sure there's power getting to the dryer. Check for a tripped circuit breaker or a blown fuse. Check the wall socket for power with a voltmeter or by plugging something else in.

2. Door switch / Door switch actuator lever
The dryer will not start with a broken door switch. Replace the door switch if found defective.

Most dryers have a door switch actuator lever - when you close a dryer door, it presses against the lever, which actuates the door switch. If the lever is broken, the switch would not activate and the dryer would not start. Replace the lever, if broken.

Note: Door switch actuator lever usually comes with the door switch assembly and it is recommended to get the whole assembly since there is almost no price difference between the door switch assembly and just the lever. Check your model for more details.

3. Thermal fuse
Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

Note: It is recommended by most dryer manufacturers to replace a hi-limit thermostat when replacing a thermal fuse.

4. Timer or control board
Replace if defective (note: uncommon problem).

**The most common issue here will be a defective Thermal fuse

Calypso Senseon electric, No beeps, no lights, nothing,

If your dryer doesn't work at all, it could be because of problems with:

Power from the house
Door switch
Thermal fuse
Wiring
Power from the house Check to see whether there's power getting to the dryer. Is it plugged in? If you plug something else into the outlet, does it work? If not, check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker.

Door switch If the door switch or the door-switch actuator is defective, the dryer won't work and you need to replace the failed component. The switch is inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch.

Thermal fuse On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse (a heat-sensitive fuse that blows if the dryer overheats) mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. The fuse is about an inch long. It's usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing.

If the fuse has blown, it has no continuity. When this happens, your dryer either just stops heating, or it doesn't work at all. Be sure to inspect the venting/heating system before replacing the fuse to put the dryer back into operation. (You can't re-set this type of fuse.)

Wiring Often the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, burns and the connection breaks. In this has happened to your dryer, you need to replace the power cord and the terminal block inside the dryer to which the wire is attached.

Dryer will not start

Check the following:
Is the power cord plugged in?
Has a fuse blown, or has circuit break er tripped?
Was a regular fuse used? Use a time-delay fuse.
Is the dryer door firmly closed?
Was the START button firmly pressed?
Is a cycle selected?
