That sounds dodgy! A new ATX power supply costs about £15.00GBP unless its a Dell which are more expensive. Saying that you can get them on eBay quite cheap or buy a Dell PSU converter for an ATX power supply and do it that way.
Oh and don't bother with that repair man again!

You can do this yourself, it really is not that hard. My 10 year old is quite good at it now! Just be confident and if your unsure on something remember Google is your friend! Here are a couple of guides that I found by typing 'Change PC power supply tutorial' into Google. Just copy the links and paste into your internet browsers address bar.

I can't open windows pc emahine t1840

If your computer does not respond when pushing the power button you may need to have your computer checked out by a computer repair shop.

Possible causes for this issues include but are not limited to.

1. broken or bad power switch
2. Bad power supply
3. Dead or dying motherboard

All these issues can be replaced / fixed. However microsoft no longer supports windows XP and soon most software may fail to work as well. It may be a good time to look at a new computer, most places offer the option of transferring over old data such as images and documents as well.

Windows XP won't load on my emachine t3516

You may need to check to make sure Windows XP was installed properly, if the computer had crashed, you can do a repair, I am a computer technician, and I can tell you, that replacing the power supply will not do that.

Satellite PSAGCA-06M01N keeps restarting when i try to upgrade windows

Computer randomly restarts is not something unique happened to you. Sometimes there is a dreadful total crash of the system and sometime it sends different errors, upon restarting nothing happens.

-- First of all disable the auto-restart option from your control panel settings
-- Remove any recently installed maliciously software/add-on or any other application or toolbar.
-- Try to cool down your PC as the overheating due to overuse of computer may result in system freezing and sudden restarting.
-- Update your BIOS.
-- Update the drivers
-- Make it sure the error is not caused by the deficient power supply. You may try to change the power supply.
-- Conduct the registry clean up scan for quick fix of the problem.
-- Remove flashy games and/or untrusted antiviruses/antispywares. Conduct the security scan through the most powerful scanners only.
I would recommend to use a system utility tool like PCFresher to fix windows errors and registry errors. Then try updating hope problem is fixed.

Auto Reboot On System Crash
http://www.theeldergeek.com/auto_reboot_on_system_crash.htm
By default, when the Windows XP operating system
crashes an automatic reboot of the system occurs. While this behavior can be convenient, the downside is the error message accompanying the crash is not visible. Often times this information can be a great help in troubleshooting the source of the crash. This behavior can be modified in two ways; via the registry or using the System Properties property sheet.

OR
Try if this works.
If you have not made any hardware changes...........
and
If you have another power supply laying around and
if
you are comfortable swapping out power supplys.
do that real quick and see if it boots.

Computer crashes

A few things can cause this.
  • Shorted wireless card
  • Weak power plug/connection
  • Weak regulator (inside the computer)
  • Hardware driver issues. You should get a blue screen
Having done a restore eliminates the bad driver really. So we should expect one of the others. If it is a weak power supply, connector it should shutdown when using the cd drive
Try another wireless card if possible.

THE COMPUTER WON'T COME ON WHEN I PUSH THE POWER BUTTON.IS THAT THE ONLY ISSUE THAT I HAVE TO LOOK AT ? POWER SUPPIES ARE O.K. AND ALL CONNECTED . THANKS! A LAI

if you have swapped the power supply then the issue is your motherboard.

but have to ask is the fan and LED's on the case lighting up?

if not it is your power supply.

If they are then it could be several things
1. the motherboard is encountering a fault could be bad memory could be a bad video card or the processor may be bad.

This is one of those where you have to ask yourself what do I want to salvage and at what cost?

power supplies are cheap $20 to $80
motherboards not so much $100
processors really not worth upgrading as a good one is around $200

Here is how I look at it
If you have a P4 (Pentuim D} that is less than 3.0GHZ its not worth fixing. Unless you have someone who knows how to diagnose the labor rate will get out of control 3 hours of labor and ANY part add up to the cost of a new computer.

Save what you can
items such as newer DVD burners, hard drives or gaming video cards can be transferred to a new computer.

my recommendation
A. check weekly ads for a pre built FRY's has good deals if you have one in your area
B. Ebay is a good source for computers off corporate lease if you have a copy of Windows XP find one that has a XP certificate sticker ON THE UNIT.
or find a seller who sells them with windows pre loaded this also REQUIRES that the computer has a windows COA sticker on it.
C. check craigslist people upgrade and they usually pop up for under $150 once again make sure the copy of windows comes with the COA.

Hope that helps

Acer Aspire One Won't Load OS

If you set it up with a dual boot, I recommend dropping in your discs and doing a repair to your OS's. Try the Debian first. I have a couple multi boot systems that have acted similarly, and when I reload the Linux Kernal, it fixes the boot record and everything runs well. If you're getting to the point that your Kernals are loading, your BIOS is fine and you're computer is passing it's POST test so the hardware is checking out. Another thing that it could easily be is your power supply. I NEVER recommend plugging in your laptop without the battery installed. Many laptops run off the battery at all times, the power supply is just continually recharging them as it's used. Giving the computer power without the battery plugged in could/would overload the circuits and voltage regulators all over the motherboard and you could EASILY damage your computer. Try swapping out your power supply with another one to make sure that isn't the issue. If neither of these attempts work (reloading the OS's/changing out the Power supply) then I recommend returning it for a warranty repair. (P.S. If you've dropped it or banged it around at all and have a traditional hard disk drive, they damage rather easily. You'll find out about that though when trying to reload the OS's. They'll tell you if it's not running properly.)

Is there a fix for Windows XP Home SP3 crash? my computer crashes all the time, i can format but i thought that there may be a fix because this is a known issue and many people have the same problem. If...

To make it short, you can try un-installing SP3, but the reason you computer is crashing is due to a program that is having incompatibility issues. That doesn't meant that your programs can run on SP3, it mean your programs and maybe even your drivers were install when you had SP2 and they didn't like the service pack update. You can definitely try to find which programs or driver are causing the problems but I recommend. Do a full format(non quick) and then a fresh install of windows and then update windows, and also try to download the latest drivers from the manufactures website and then install your programs.

**So yes I recommend an operating system re-install.

XP Home Edition crashes while in standby - blue screen error

Sounds like a bad file . I would consider reinstalling windows. When it starts up, for a new install, it will find your existing OS and ask it you want it repaired, say yes then it wil repair it and leave al you data as is.
