Question about Dryers

1 Answer

I have a fridgidaire feq1452hs electric front load dryer, 4 yrs old, under extended warranty. The control panel has already been replaced once. Dryer is in a vacation rental we own in Kona, Hawaii. I am not there to inspect it in person - the problem with the dryer is coming to me second hand from our guests. They report the dryer is now beeping all the time. Have to switch it off at the breaker to stop the beeping. Still dries clothes, but beeps the whole time it is operating. What is causing this and how can it be remedied? Does the control panel need to be replaced? thanx Charlie

Reset the control and read the most recent error codes. Rotate the CYCLE SELECTOR KNOB to the 3 O'clock position (Touch Up) then press and hold the Select and Pause/Control buttons simultaneously for 6 seconds. Immediately after, press and hold the START and Pause/Control buttons simultaneously for 4 seconds then rotate the CYCLE SELECTOR KNOB back to the 2 O'clock position (Quick).

The STATUS indicator lights will flash the number of times for the first digit of the code and the START indicator light will flash the number of times for the second digit. Read the code by counting the number of times the lights flash. The STATUS indicator lights and the START indicator light will start flashing at the same time then the control will pause for 2 seconds, and then repeat the code. Press the OPTIONS button to advance to the next code. Simultaneously press and hold the Select and Pause/Control buttons for 6 seconds to reset and exit.

Post back the error code if there's any for further advise or if the resetting of the control does not address the problem. you will have to take the front panel off. first unplug the dryer then there will b two screws in back that hold top on, once screws r out the top will slide back allowing to lift up. there r 4 screws that hold the touch/display panel on. unplug and remove. there r another 4 screws under that panel that hold the front panel and there 2 more when u open door about as high the lint screen. once all screws r out u should b able to see heater. if not remove all other necessary components. it will b at the bottom left. remember this usually the cause of a heater failure is a clogged or restricted vent. tall tell sign close took a long time to dry.

How do take the front of the dryer off on Kenmore model 417.94812301

To remove the front of the dryer you must first take off the control panel It starts with 2 small screws (one each side ) just up and under the overhang on each side. Then take the two screws out of the white cover plate that is above the washer lid. The cover plate that is angled toward you. Once that cover plate is off you can remove 4 screws to remove the aluminum cover plate that hides the electrical connections. ( Which of course aren't live as you already unplugged or turned off the power to the unit). Once the aluminum cover is off you can see the dryer exhaust connection and some of the electrical connections. Remove the last two screws for the control panel ( which are now visible). Disconnect the electrical connections 2 or 3 as well as the safety override wire. (These are all plug type type connectors). Put the control panel aside. Now go to the top of the dryer and remove the 4 or 6 screws holding the lid on the dryer. Remove the lid. You now have access to the dryer drum (which is much lighter than you think and easy to remove (write ups elsewhere)). You can also remove and replace the heating element, the idler arm and the drive belts. (Hint:, before disconnecting the drive belts and idler arm draw them. They assemble backwards to the way your brain thinks after the fact).
To get to the washer is completely different. You start by removing the 2 screws at the front of the washer at floor level. Once these are out you can remove the front of the washer by pushing the panel down to release it. ( about 1/2 inch). Once the panel is off you then remove a screw under the top of the washer at the front on each side. The lid can now be removed. From there you have access to the water inlet valve, the idler arm, the drum, the motor, the drain, etc etc .

Have fun and cheers

Unresponsive control panel- Whirlpool duet dryer 4 years old

This advise is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet front loader washers and dryers with a Control Lock problem.

This may or may not be an indication of a serious problem. In the majority of the cases, this is a simple operator error. Nearly all these model appliances have some sort of Control Lock feature on the front panel now. This is a designed safety feature that is used to prevent small children from manipulating the controls. The controls can be easily locked or unlocked by pressing and holding the following button on the front panel:

Whirlpool Duet Washer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.

Whirlpool Duet Dryer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.

Kenmore Elite Washer - Press and hold the DRAIN/SPIN button for 3 seconds.

Kenmore Elite Dryer - Press and hold the AUTO DRY LEVEL button for 3 seconds.

These instructions may not be all inclusive for all Kenmore and Whirlpool models, but they are the most common. Chances are, if you have a Control Lock feature, the instructions will be printed on the front panel adjacent to the button that is required to lock or unlock the controls.

NOTE: These instructions may also work for newer model Maytag, Hotpoint, Admiral and Fridgidaire model front loaders as well. Refer to your owner's manual or front panel for instructions pertaining to your sepcific model.

If the Control Lock feature will not lock or unlock the appliance, unplugging the unit for AT LEAST 30 minutes is recommended in order to reset the main control board. In many cases this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches.

Control Button Issues

My two year old unit would not do anything, but lights on. Then they would go off, and nothing but opening the door would get them on again. Replaced electronic panel in Feb. 2008, under warranty, still cost $80. Worked until first of June, 2008. Ordered a new panel. Repairman suggested that the wall outlet may be defective, even though the lights were on. The Unit also would have the lights come on by themselves. Outlet replaced, dryer worked fine. We still replaced the panel board, as repairman was not sure exactly what was the problem. I was told that the panel costs about $300.

From the sounds of things, you are talking about a front loading dryer. The agitators in the dryer can get coins stuck inside them. Remove the top and rotate the drum to reveal the screws which hold the agitators to the drum. Remove the screws and the agitators, empty the coins or other debris and reinstall.

The loud squeal sounds like the pad under the open side of the drum is worn out. There may also be a dry main bearing in the rear of the dryer. Lubricate the bearing and reinstall the drum. The squeal should disappear.

If this is not a dryer or a front loading washer, none of these suggestions will apply, Sorry

Dryer just quit.. no buttons lit

Front Panel lights not working? Dryer inside light does work? I fixed this twice already on my dryer. Please read this whole explanation I live in New Orleans where the humidity is very high. I have a laundry room where my Washer and Dryer reside. Kenmore HE4T. I noticed that when I shut the laundry room door, my central A/C pulls hot air from outside the house via the dryer exhaust duct. This causes moisture to build on the inside of the dryer and especially the front control panel. Did you ever see moisture on your dryer?s door even when there were no clothes in it? The moisture collects on the Silicon board that controls the dyers function and basically causes a short. This is what I do to fix it. You will need a ¼ nut driver or socket. 1. Confirm that you have power to the dryer <- is the inside dryer light on when you open the door. YES- keep reading.. NO ? find the circuit breaker and reset it. 2. UNPUG THE DRYER! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! 3. Find the 3 screws in the back of the dryer that hold the dryer lid on. Unscrew them and slid the lid back and lift off. Is there moisture on the inside of the lid? 4. Find the 2 screws that hold down the front control panel. They should be silver and will be on top. Do not remove the inside gold screws. 5. Find the 3 screws that hold down the power control panel on the top left side of the dryer. Probably has a high voltage warning sticker on it. 6. Lift the power control panel (sheet metal) part and move it to the right so it lays on the dyers drum. There are some wires attached to it and unless you are a very handy person, I wouldn?t remove them. 7. Lift the front control panel straight up until it comes out of the dryer. There should be some wires that attach this piece to the power control panel. If you are handy, you can remove these 2 clip-on wires from the power control panel by squeezing the black connector locking clip and releasing it from the panel. 8. If you flip the control panel around you may notice moisture on the green silicon chips. Get a hairdryer and take your time to dry them. 9. Dry all components of the dryer with a hairdryer. 10. Put everything back together except for the lid and all the screws. Remember that the front control panel slides down first and then the power control panel sits on top second. Plug the dryer in and see if you get lights, but don?t start the dryer. Unplug the dryer and replace all the screws and the lid. The problem is that once the dryer gets wet from the moisture, it never dries enough for it to start working again. This is a bad design from Sears/Whirlpool. I learn my lesson that just because its more expensive doesn?t make it more better. I now keep my dryer and washer door open all the time even when there are no clothes in it. This lets the moisture escape into the house rather than collect in the dryer. I hope this helps at least one person. Thanks Jason Kennedy from New Orleans
