my problem is that the shaft and the parts inside the machine move as soon as i turn the nut so the 2 flats no longer lock the shaft. i must pull on the shaft to get the 2 flats to lock it, but i cant pull on the shaft and turn the nut at the same time. (LOL)

Dependent upon the size of the shaft, a choice of suitable tools would vary. Considering this is the shaft off of an electric motor, may I suggest you wrap a rag around the area of the shaft where you can grip it and use a pair of Vise Grip locking pliars to hold it while you turn the nut. If the vise grips won't open wide enough, then use a rag with a pipe wrench locked onto the shaft to hold it.

Yes there is a manual at the black and decker website, when you get to their main page, scroll down to the bottom and click on instruction manuals, then you will put in the model no. and it will take you to the download. It is easy. take care and good luck

Cannot get the blade off even following the manual's directions. Nut is slowly spinning under pressure with the square washer and blade is held in place with 2x4. Is it seized?

Try this

Apply a good dose of Liquid Wrench and tap the bolt head sharply several times

Wait 2 hours and then attempt to TIGHTEN it just a tiny bit
Remember Righty Tighty Lefty Losey

Now try to take it off If you have an 1/2" air impact wrench it will make the job much easier

Blade lock for mm850

Use a 2x4 at least 1-3' long. Clear the grass chute so you have unobstructed passage from the back of the mower and into the blades. Wedge the 2x4 longways in through the chute and up against the blade. The other end can be **** up against something sturdy i.e. a concrete block, a wall, etc... (in my case I used my leg). Take your wrench and crank like hell.
