    Hi Geekman,
Seems there is some mistake. I thought I was asking a general question in the cars and auto section about a car that has been in a flood. It appears that I am in the wrong area. Speakers I can fix (or throw out) its the ECU's that I need to know about
    Cheers
    John

Thanks, can the ecu be cleaned? I have taken the cover off and there is mold on the back of the PCB. Is it more likely that the components have "burnt out" rather than just a short which when removed would let the unit operate?

I do have an OBD11 tool but wanted to inspect and clean some obvious problems first. It was fresh water by the way.

Thanks Mate, I have already started and I have a second car with good electrics and a bad motor. 2 = 1 I am hoping.
I have undone and cleaned and checked all connections etc. Yes it may take a couple of days but I'll get there in the end. I have used WD40 to clean the verdigris off the circuit board and plug connectors.
    Thanks for your help

Hi! As a first course of action I strongly suggest that you remove the battery connectors. Just let it seat for a few days till everything is dried up. After that you may install it and check for possible problems. Please do write back on the progress. Hope this helps and have a good one!

If the doors have the speakers, then the speakers could be dirty from the creek water. Having the connectors shorting out the amplifiers in the radio can be possible anytime water gets into the speaker area.

May need another radio and clean up the wire connections to the speaker.

Are you having a nonfunctioning radio right now?

Speakers do not like being wet. Depending upon how long they have been submerged and how they have been dried out, I would guess they are permanently damaged.
The only way to test the speakers, is to remove the speakers and examine them and test them on the bench with a working amp.
The voice coil on the speaker could be stuck or corroded against the magnet. The speaker diaphragm could be broken. this means the speakers needs to be replaced.
I suggest the radio/amp be check out first to see if it functions properly.

It is highly likely the ECU is shorted out, especially if the unit was powered up when it was in the water. The ECU is a computer, and other electronic sensors may also be damaged.
There is an electronic diagnostic unit that plugs into the data connector of the ECU that downloads the error log to identify the faults, provided the ECU is still functioning.

My guess, components are burnt out, but I would try to clean and dry the ECU out, and then try the ECU out. You might be lucky, you have nothing to lose.
Bear in mind the wiring and connectors to sensors as wells as the sensors themselves etc. could give you problems, it might take you a while to trace these faults.
I hope you have a service manual with the circuit diagrams.
Good luck, I think this will not be a quick and easy job.

2000 jaguar type s battery is dead after not driving car for 2 days

One possible cause is water in the boot well. It seeps into the wiring loom and shorts. This would drain the battery. If this is the problem, dry out the well and keep it dry.
