Vista Compatibility with DI-704P

Is there a Vista version of the print server or if there isn't are there 'work arounds'. Thanks in advance.

I also am unable to install the print server software under Windows Vista. I have no problems running the print server software under Windows XP, despite it not being listed in the manual as a supported OS.

I tried setting the compatibility mode to Windows 2000 on the setup.exe under the NT folder, but it did not seem to make a difference. Like I have found with most software that I run under Vista that is older, a lot of times you have to wait 15 minutes or so for the first or second dialog box to finally pop up.

I have a PC plugged into a DI-704P router and it prints through it to a Canon laserprinter. I now also wish to plug my new laptop into the router and print to the same laserprinter. Tried your suggestions on configuring a port but can't get it to happen. Any suggestions?

The print server is not be designed for a specific operating system. The DP-704P can be used with Windows, Mac and Linux. It is your printer driver that needs to be compatible with Vista.

What are your trying to do? What is the exact problem? With more details about your problem we should be able to help you.

The print server software does not need to be installed in order to print to the printer attached to the 704P from Vista. I went out to D-LINK's website and there are step-by-step instructions for configuring port 192.168.0.1 and associating a printer with that port.

See the following link:
http://support.dlink.com/faq/print.asp?productid=794

These instructions are for 2000/XP but they are very similiar to what you need to do for Windows Vista. I tried it and it worked fine. It did take me several tries however, as I should have read through the steps completely first.

I can recomend to your network setup is WPS54GU2

******************************** Before configuring the wireless settings of the printserver, make sure to know the following settings on your D-link router: SSID, and wireless security.

I use the D-Link DI-704p router for an ethernet Lan with 8 Macs. Fast in the morning, horribly slow up/downloads in afternoon. Output runs at half speed of input from provider when tested in afternoon.

access your router with following link

http://192.168.1.1
or
http://192.168.0.1

type user name as "admin" and password as "admin" or blank or "password"

then go to wi fi advanced then check signal channel type 4 , 6, 11 are working fine try 1 by 1 theses channel then check.
Set channel which give most high speed.
When you set channel always save settings then restart computer and router both after save settings then check.
Thanks for using fixya.

Computers Do not find DI-704P router linked to Apris TM402G/110 Cable modem

Make sure that the cables are in the right place, computers should be connected to one of the 4 ethernet ports and the cable from the modem goes to the WAN port of the router, here's a picture, the WAN port is the closest one to the print server port.
If this is ok and still no internet than try to power down the router and the modem for a bit like 5-10 sec and put power back on, first the modem than the router, if this didn't help you out than you have to do some deeper configuration.
First you need to log in to the router while connected via cable to it. Open a web browser and type 192.168.0.1(it's the default ip address of the router), if it's not asking for username and password than start menu>run type in CMD and press enter, a DOS window will pop, type in IPCONFIG and press enter, the command's output will be something like this
The default gateway is what you need, that's the router's address, type that in the browser, it will ask for username and password, by default it's
Username: admin
Password: (just leave it blannk, no password)
or if it's not working:
Username: admin
Password: admin

You can use the wizard to finish the job, and don't forget to push the clone the MAC address button during the process. That should do it, but if you still have problems there's a very very detaliled howto from D-link over here.

Mac Support for DLink 704P Router

The DI 704 P software is not distributed anymore , as D-Link discontinued the product.
Among 704 P only last version (revision D) supported mac, check here to find out your version.
You can still couple the server to mac using this procedure, give it a try.
If it does not work contact D-Link and ask if you can have copy of control software.

Add di-704p to an existing network

What you want to do should be quite easy:

1. Just connect one of the LAN ports of the DI-704P to a LAN port of your WRT54G. Try using a standard network cable. If the port status lights does not turn on on both sides when you connect the cable, use a "crossover" cable. Important: leave the DI-704P WAN port empty.

2. Disable the DHCP server on your DI-704P, your WRT54G will be the DHCP server.

3. Assign a static IP address to you DI-704P, different from your WRT54G. Example, if your WRT54G has 192.168.2.1, you may assign 192.168.2.4 to your DI-704P. Make sure that the IP address you assign is outside the DHCP range configured in your WRT54G and that the subnet mask is identical on both.
You will then be able to use your print server from any wired and wireless computer and the remaining LAN ports both on the WRT54G and DI-704P.

Low ID on eMule

One more thing re low id on emule - try to choose ports between 10000 and 60000 - many isps block the standard ports that emule users choose, and you will see people saying to choose one over 5000, but I'd chosen ports between 5000 and 10000, and still had no luck until I went over10000.
Most isps don't monitor ports over 10000, so if you still have low id problems even after port forwarding and setting up your firewall, this may be the answer to your problem! (I got this info off portforward.com, and it worked for me)
