You need to take this unit to a qualified repair center. The problem seems to be either a malfunctioning switch, or the circuitry that operates the power on/off function. In either case, unless you are an experienced tech, in the interests of your own safety, you should not attempt to repair this yourself.

Why won't the CD drawer and Cassette door open on my Panasonic SA-PM17 CD Stereo System?

This does happen with CD trays, it's quite common. I can't remember the exact mot common cause, but it's some worn out part, such as a small (plastic) cog wheel. Search on "cd tray won't open" on the internet to find a multitude of reasons, most to do with computer CD trays, but I guess the mechanism is essentially the same. These may also describe ways round the problem.
Some CD players have a small hole on the front near the tray into which poking a straightened out paperclip should enable you to open the tray by a few mm, enough to be able to pull it open in an emergency - but it's awkward to do on a frequent basis.

your system isn't turning back on it is a demo screen. find the button that says something about a demo and press it while the system is off. if that doesnt work press and hold the button while the system is off. if that doesn't work refer to your manual on how to shut off the demo

Cd jam in panasonic sa-pm17

Hi. Got the very same problem. At christmas I had loaded two cd's in one of the racks. I used needlenose pliers as well and pulled each of the 5 trays out (well past their runners). Tried to dismantle the unit with the 3 screws on each side, but gave up. When I turn the power off and on and do a cd check the "hello" flashes then nothing, tried cd/change power button and basically everything else. All I can say is go easy on the unit as I was to forceful an now think i've ruined it. I'm gutted as this was a great mini hi-fi and has served me well. Best of luck with ur Panasonic, cheers.
