Question about Mitsubishi WS-55859 55" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Dear SD Tech, My WS-55859 suddenly stopped turning on, either from the remote or the front panel switch. It would click the relay and turn on the front panel light for a couple of seconds and then turn off. I did the self diagnostics and got 2 blinks, pause, 2 blinks, pause.... Other questions on this site indicate that the pico fuses are shorted. I saw that SD Tech has pictures and a parts list and parts vendor list available to fix the problem. I am a EE and have all the tools to fix this. I replaced the 1000uf caps on the DM board a couple of years ago. Please send me the infomation to markedavid.pm@gmail.com Thanks MEDPM

I have the address. 2,2 is short protection. 98% chance one of the two pico fuses pictured is blown.

Model indicated uses a single convergence chip; it and the fuses are on the middle board.

See attached photos of fuses (circled ones are suspects) and another of the chip.

A very helpful rating will result in instructions sent.

I am having what seems to be the same problem as MEDPM. I had replaced the compacitors a year ago and it was back up and running like new.. After reading your comment and viewing your photo SD TECH, I went in and tested the fuses that you thought were suspect with a continuity tester.. But the fuses tested good.. Any idea what the 2% chance it could be??

Getting double image, red, blue, can fix temporary with remote by lining up all the color. I have Mitsubishi model WS-55859 .

Model indicated uses a single Convergence IC----STK-393-110, ABOUT a 15 dollar part on Ebay.

A lot of these sets had problems where the pins break loose INSIDE THE CHIP--causes the kind of problem you are having.

Good news is I have start to finish, step by step instructions for this repair in this model----it can be a do it yourself job.

Most shops get well over 300 for this repair--if able to do it yourself, total parts cost will be under 30 dollars.

I can post the instructions here or if you have a email send to you-----they are free.

My Mitsubishi Model ws-55859 Wont turn on. The timer light just flashes. Is ther a common fix?

ONLY 1 of 2 things can cause this problem----

First thing to do is remove front speaker grill--it should pull out and is secured with plastic pegs--behind it you will find an inspection plate---

Notice the one or two pairs of wires coming from the front keyboard of the set---remove the inspection plate and follow the wires to the right--you can unplug both plugs(most have two and they are marked with letters and different sizes so you cannot get them wrong)

The idea here is to remove the front keyboard with its reset button etc from the circuit---You will still be able to try to turn the set on with the remote---

These sets have a Receiver that is called a DM board--(large metal box to the left as you look from the back) and if the power goes out the green light will blink for about 70 seconds and then go out---it is the Receiver booting up. It is called the DM board.

If disconnecting the keyboard allows the set to turn on--you have a bad reset switch and two choices---either operate the set only with the remote or to remove the front screen and get at the reset switch (it is tiny) and remove and/or replace it.

If disconnecting the keyboard does not restore the set to operation---the receiver is bad---there are 4 or more caps and some pico fuses that can fail in that unit---Mitsubishi no longer sells or repairs these--if it is bad and not the caps there is a company you can send the unit to and have it repaired--if you need to know their name let me know---

You can call them and get a quote for repairing the receiver.

Let me know what more information you need--I am here to help.

The WS-55859 does not have a "Lamp" it is a 2001 rear projection set with three picture tubes.

Also do you have this problem on all inputs--tuner, and various rear inputs?

Mitsu WS-55859---turned off & only powers up for 2 secs

2,2 is short protection.

98% chance the fuse or fuses (there are two 5 amp pico fuses) that protect the convergence circuit are blown. If you find F9AO4 OR F9AO5 on that board check them--if either is open the STK-393-110 DID IT.

Fairly short life for this chip if it was installed correctly and had heat sink compound applied to it--once in a while you get a bad one.

Mitsubishi model ws-55859 tv is red and red

If it is WS-55859 and you go into the customer menu and find red or blue are skewed and will not adjust---you have a convergence problem.

This model uses a single STK-393-110 convergence chip--it and any of the protect resistors around it that are bad will need to be replaced and the set adjusted.

The chip can be purchased on Ebay for about 12 dollars plus shipping--total parts cost should be under 30 dollars!

I HAVE START TO FINISH, STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS REPAIR IN THIS MODEL.

They tell you everything you will need and how to do the repair---If you or someone you know can do it I can post or get the instructions to you.

If you cannot do it shop around your area--most shops are going to get 300 or MORE for this kind of repair and many will not do in in your home--Any good tech can do it in your home in about 1 hour--I know as I have done hundreds of them.

If you have questions or need help let me know--I am here to help people.
