You can use the RCA jack and an RCA cable to your aux in on your receiver.

Was the second aux cable you tried new or old? If both aux cables were older, you might possibly want to try (not necessarily buy) plugging in a new one. If you have done that: How old is this receiver? Brand new or older, if older it could be build-up inside the jack causing a break in the connection between jack and aux cable. If this is the case then a simple cleaning with a Q-tip and some alcohol could help immensely. If that's not the case, it sounds like you could have a short in the jack.

Common inputs are coaxial type (red/white). Try Coaxial to headphone jack cable, connect phone jack to your digital player and the coaxial to stereo. And set your Stereo System to AUX mode or video mode.

Hope that give you an idea...

How do I use altec lansing acs40 with a laptop?

Fairly easy really. You'll need to buy a jack to jack AUX cable. Single point for stereo needed and a headphone jack on the laptop.
The left hand and right hand speakers are slightly different. The right hand speaker only has a cord coming out the back of it and no AUX points.
The right hand speakers has a series of small jack points.
The first hole is the adaptor plug that has to be plugged into mains socket, then the 1st hole marked SPKR has to have a jack to jack cord going from that speaker to the other one. The last two holes marked "A" and "B" give you the option to put two jack to jack AUX sound cables in.
To get it into your laptop, you'll need ONE AUX jack to jack cable and fit it into the point at the back marked "B" and then through the headphone socket on your laptop. You will then have sound.
Make sure to remember to put the system on by the push button switch on the back of the left hand speaker. The speaker system also has another rotary switch on at the front of the speaker.
I've had these speakers for well over 10 years - brilliant sound quality and very durable. Hope it has helped you!

You mention "tulip plugs"! are you referring to your RCA jacks in the back of your unit? That is what the 7 inputs are to the right of your speaker connections.
When you hook your "stereo TV" to your external sound unit
you need to run your cables to your aux input from your audio out jacks on the back of the TV. Once this is done you need to configure your TV and your sound unit to work with each other. You need to go into your TV settings and tell it where to send the audio to. If you hooked into the front audio output then you need to pick that selection. If you hooked into the back audio out you need to pick that selection. Once you have completed that you need to tell your sound unit where to pick the sound up at. If you plugged into the aux then put your sound unit on aux. If you have more than 1 aux pay attention to what aux your TV is coming in on and set your sound unit accordingly.

use a y connector with the 1/4 inch jack into 2 RCA plugs, plug the 1/4 inch jack into the speaker plug (on a desktop) or the headphone jack (on a laptop) and plug the RCA plugs into the AUX on your receiver. note the red and white colored plugs and the red and white colored ports on the receiver.

I WANT TO CONECT MY LAP TOP TO MY LIFESTYLE 30

Go to Radio Shack and buy a cable with two phono plugs on one end and a 1/8" jack on the other end - they're pretty cheap.

Put the phono plugs into the AUX sockets on the back of the Bose, and the 1/8" jack plug into the 'headphone out' jack socket on the laptop.

Be sure that the display says you're in AUX mode. This works for me.

Good luck.
Howard.

Trying to sort aux-in

Hi,
as you do not mention the model I have to guess that your player has a aux-in on phono (or RCA) jack. If you want to plug the iPod just buy a "Twin phono to 3.5mm stereo jack cable".
You can find in many superstores or Maplin.
